and yet every once in a while I reactivate my account because “oh i wanna see what the funny people are saying” but its not worth having to deal with the weird shitty clapback style of speaking everyone does, and the rampant nazis that people still fucking quote tweet to get their cheap lazy dunks. after being on there for far too long I realized i’d subconsciously adopted that whole pattern of thinking where you look for a bullying target and generally hate yourself and everyone around you. once I clocked that I went to
and never go back. i cannot escape the conclusion that it is a deeply evil website. i know all social media is like that because of capitalism but twitter really is its own world.
i never understood twitter. like the appeal I mean. and they layout is counter intuitive for quotes and nesting. its clearly just made to shout contextless snippets into an ether. great platform for headlines, not for dialogue.
after they unbanned all the overt nazis and account-walled even looking at replies, it killed off any interest i had in looking at content that links to that burst sewer pipe.
but i was abandoning web 2.0 platforms before most people alive today even had their first. friendster, myspace, if you wait until the platform is a ghost town of spam bots and evil grandmas before you cut your losses, you’ve already lost.
I always think of that interview where Julia Roberts is asked where she can be followed on Twitter. She doesn’t know what it is, the interviewer has to explain it to her, and she just says “Why would anyone want that? That’s just…shouting into the wind.”
I’ve maintained this position ever since.
The two times not being into a popular thing really worked out in my favor: never caring about Harry Potter and never having a Twitter account.
i read the first HP book in like 2003 then started the second one, realized i didn’t actually give a shit about any of these dorks and never looked back
At first I was like, ‘who would want to post in a 140-character limit’…
Ironically, it was better with the character limit
I deleted my Twitter account back when
first bought it and never looked back. Probably a good thing, because if I hadn’t I probably would have told a bunch of Nazis to follow their leader and had the account banned by now.A retched Nazi bar, that place is.
I can’t even begin to overcome the unique kind of nazi cranks that inhabit that space. I see in slop people posting marble bust avatars with some of the most bewildering yet unhinged racist takes. So I’ve never even dug under the surface level nazi stuff to see the mean assholes who make up the rest of that hellscape.
We need to invent some sort of memetic virus that gives everyone who posts Nazi shit violent and incurable diarrhea
Would be nice. Like it’s not even about ostracizing them from society anymore as the dominant society is itself fash adjacent, so…
Perhaps there are mind viruses that can be made, that push them to a sort of blackpilled self-exclusion from society.
Twitter was never good, none of the twitter clones have ever been good, no site like twitter can ever be good.
There are no funny people on twitter.
I do see posts about missiles hitting US bases occasionally that give a good chuckle though
I was an avid twitter user for 10+ years but I quit earlier this year and haven’t even felt an urge to open it again. It was just making me angry every time. It wasn’t as bad before the Elon takeover though.
somehow Elon made it a million times worse
got banned on purpose when it became the Adolf Hitler website and never looked back. I’m still depressed as shit and doom scroll here and Tumblr a lot but it was somehow much worse
Twitter made me fucking nasty in my early 20’s. I didn’t realize it until it got super chuddy and I deleted my account.
Honestly it’s a bit of a silver lining that seemingly every social media website has become irony poisoned and filled with AI garbage: more and more people logging off. Maybe we’ll all be less alienated in the long run? I dunno, it’s kind of hard to see clearly through all the smoke from this capitalist dumpster fire, don’t huff that shit.

I was recently tempted to log back onto twitter for more professional purposes but I successfully resisted it and just logged into Mastodon. The app experience is amazing there, buttery smooth unlike Bluesky.
and yet, everyone agrees that this experience is better than bluesky lol
Thankfulky I have a somewhat curated experience on both platforms, following pretty much the same people. my feed is WOKE but not too insufferable or full of bots / chuds.
I dont really interact or comment on twitter. My throwaway shitposting account is for tiktok. Sometimes here, but y’all get to experience a more sincere version of me. ☺️
Blueskys app is just ass imo. It’s so slow that I don’t find it enjoyable to scroll.
The bluesky website and app are way better than the Twitter one.
Idk bro it takes like 10 seconds to just open the app for me and every single tab requires additional 2-3 seconds of loading before I can use it.
Bluesky too.
