      That’s a false dilemma. Historically birth rates fall fastest through prosperity and education, not war deaths. Besides, war-driven death tolls only dent the growth rate temporarily and get overcompensated by a subsequent boom.

      Tech does advance during wars, but that doesn’t mean war is required for advancement. Enormous tech progress also happens in peacetime. Advances don’t require war.
