NEW YORK, NY (WKZO AM/FM) – Holtec Nuclear Corporation has filed paperwork to be publicly traded on the U.S. stock market.
The company owns the Palisades nuclear power plant in Covert Township and is working to get that facility restarted after purchasing it to dismantle it in 2022.
Holtec has filed with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission to start the process of an initial public offering.
Palisades will be the first nuclear plant in the U.S. to be restarted after being decommissioned.
What could go wrong?
Time to maximize shareholder value!
Uh is it a good idea to restart a decommissioned nuclear reactor instead of like idk building a new one
depends on the decommissioning circumstances i’d imagine. sometimes they’re shut down because they’re not profitable rather than any technical end of life.
Is that a thing? I assumed that nuclear power plants are generally pretty profitable if you don’t factor in construction and decommissioning.
TMI-1 shut down a few years ago because natural gas was too cheap apparently.
saying it’s common or not is weird because we have relatively few nuclear plants
i think it takes many years in the best case
