This feels like one of those stories that would have animated a really juicy vein of conspiracy theories and angry crankery 30 years ago but in 2026 will be forgotten by next week at the latest
And the same people that would’ve run with that arc years ago will now support this government and military vehemently, while going off on some tangent about all history being a lie and putting their trust in AI
It falls into that “leftist conspiracy theory” bucket, where the facts of the case aren’t really even in dispute. The GPS jamming was plainly a major contributing factor to the crash. The attitude seems to be “oh well, military exercises are just a fact of life, and civilians need to fucking watch out in case they get caught in the crossfire”. It’s a totally analogous situation to the 2025 Potomac River mid-air collision - why the fuck does the US military just get to do whatever the fuck it wants to do, even if it obviously endangers people?
And I just gotta specifically call out the General Aviation pilots and their bootlicker comments on reddit about how pilots are trained to navigate without GPS, and the pilot should have aborted the landing approach. And yeah, in retrospect the pilot should have… but this was a medevac flight, and so the pilot is in the position of potentially sacrificing the life of the patient they were flying out to pick up.
There’s an obvious counter-factual: what if the military didn’t jam GPS that night. Hell, it’s not like the government didn’t know their flight plan, how about just turning off the jammers for a couple of hours?? But the concept of a government working for the people on stuff like that is alien to Americans.
