She says many people inheriting their genetics from east Asia cannot pick up on it well with their nose. But other than this minority, most people can.

That’s totally fair. She’s just mentioning how old perfumes smelled more like lifeforms and now we’re going back to that via this molecule.
She talks about how many perfumes now smell mehhh because living things that went in old perfume were part of what made them smell gorgeous. And they were made illegal ingredients because they were parts of animals that are now protected, like ambergris(whale vomit seasoned by sunshine and sea salt, strangely enough), and other natural things like lichen that gave a miniscule part of the population rashes. I think I may one day try the molecule to smell more like life itself.
