Many people recognize that gender – how a person identifies, presents themselves and is perceived – has nuances. Some people identify and present as women, others as men, and still others as nonbinary.
But there is a common misconception that biological sex – usually determined by a person’s sex chromosomes, gonads (ovaries or testes) or genitals – is binary. This idea assumes that everyone is biologically either female or male, with no ambiguity or intermediacy.
That’s a lot of em-dashes.
The author of this article just released a book on this subject. I wonder if it has as many em-dashes as his article.
Yup, academic papers and scholarly publications use em dashes. This isn’t the gotcha you think it is.
For those not informed this is a thinly veiled accusations towards the authors of this paper accusing them of using generative AI to fake the study. Accusations like these are often made out of ignorance but also often times due to a personal agenda of the accuser.
Okay
Lets say all that information checks out, and is natural creation
I will still be dsisgusted and unsupportive or people who do operations on themselves, it is deeply disturbing…
And I will be disgusted and unsupportive of transphobic people who think other people’s sex lives are any of their business.
@lemmyposter212@fedinsfw.app FYI This person is a transphobe who is homed on your instance.
what, in general, like taking out your appendix? or just exterior, like removing a breast to treat cancer? or just cosmetic, like fixing a broken nose? or gender-affirming, like a fat guy getting top surgery? or gender-affirming as the medically approved cure specifically for dysphoria?
where is the line that makes it disturbing?
All of those would be disturbing if done by the person themselves tbh.
i know there was that doctor on antarctica who had to remove their own appendix, but i wouldn’t be surprised if people have done all the others too.
Well, it would be more disturbing in the sense of what a society is that forces this. Also, there is a very famous case of a person removing their appendix in the past, a fascinating story in a way: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leonid_Rogozov
where is the line that makes it disturbing?
“If they look like a female fuck-toy that makes my peeny go brrr but they aren’t really a female fuck-toy but a human with man parts, then it makes me uncomfortable and it’s their fault. They’re lying to me about their fuckability which is how I grade women, but if their fuckability challenges my heterosexuality it’s because they’re a disgusting abomination and I’m just a normal person.”
Yeah, it really can be condensed to just
their fuckability challenges my heterosexuality
Too bad people have delicate heterosexuality that can be swayed by a wind gust a tad bit too strong
What someone does or does not do their own body is none of your business.
So, no more self operations for whatever reason then? Going to surgery is still fine?
Are people operating on themselves? What?
I find your attitude deeply disturbing. You are probably deeply disturbed as well.
Why, in 2026, am I forced to read a -50 vote transphobic comment? Does Lemmy just not have the technology to implement a collapse icon that auto-collapses on stupid shit like this?
I could code this in a day. I could have an LLM code this in an hour.
FYI Piefed has this feature, as well as post filtering by keyword
I would be opposed to that feature. I didn’t like it on reddit and I certainly wouldn’t like it here. We already have a block button if we don’t like what someone is saying.
Disgust reactions are not the best things to build a worldview around. What other people do to themselves has no bearing on you whatsoever. Relax.
