All bulbs replaced with Philips flicker free eyecare stuff, new lamps new setups to reduce contrast which all cost… a lot but i was like really not doing good. Every room now has new bulbs and lamps.
I then remembered night mode on my screens existed which i should have remembered but didn’t somehow, even though i used it on linux with redshift like 12 years ago religiously. All now scheduled to turn on at 3pm on all my devices.
So far im mainly noticing even dark mode text white on black is still really hurting so need to figure out something less contrasty for text reading but otherwise i’ve been feeling a migraine ebbing and flowing all day but it hasnt really commit yet. Might be placebo but it feels better at least the light in my own house doesnt feel offensive to look at.
Hopefully it works out, I do need something to change how text looks on screens in general though, words just look awful to me these days unless the font is massive…
I’ve already been to the eye dentist recently, I have to go every year anyway cos im like really blind and my dork ass eyes need new lenses frequently but doctor is next on the list. Hopefully I can convince the evil nhs doctors to give me some medication.
Other things that have helped ofc closing eyes the second i notice issues and going to rest works but a cold compress on my face, eyes or back of my neck helps tremendously. Dunking my face in cold water brings some relief as well.
Conversely posting gives me migraines which means posting is evil
What lamp are you using?
Just got 2 dirt cheap lamps off amazon one for my bedroom to go alongside my lumie lamp that faces the wall and one for my living room to replace the awful g9 bulb lamp i had. Both have E27 philips eye comfort bulbs which have been quite pleasant so far.
Absent a hardware solution like epaper display, you could try reducing the color saturation on your monitor or in your OS. Usually it’s in the accessibility settings under a term like “color filters.”
Secondly, if you move all or parts of your computer usage to something like Emacs, then you control the environment entirely and don’t have to rely on third parties to offer good themes.
Third, and this is something I’ve done recently, you can go retro and use the computer just to “print” articles as pdf for later consumption on an epaper device or even on literal paper. So you don’t have to stop using the computer entirely, but you could modify your usage habits and identify ways to defer reading to later in a healthier format.
I have light sensitivity, I find dark theme with white text can cause more eye strain so I use css scripts to dim the browser and not rely so much on dark themes.
I’m told blue-grays are good, and #13151a and #b8bcc2 are a nice pair. You can reduce the HSV value to dim the font to personal preference.
All i want is desktop monitor eink display

I have some options.
13.3 inch 3200x2400@60Hz available in Color and B&W
https://www.crowdsupply.com/modos-tech/modos-flow
10.8 inch 1920x1080@60Hz B&W
https://www.aliexpress.us/item/3256809401626221.html (find your own supplier, I don’t endorse any particular one, this is just way cheaper than the modos flow.
I hope eink monitor prices come down in the next few years. That would be a dream to use.
I have the same issue when I stare at dark mode text for a long time. I use a tan background with brown letters for terminals, editors and ebook readers. Not sure how you get that in a regular browser, though.
Do you take any medications for your migraines? I take 100mg of sumatriptan when I get one coming on and it usually works.
