The People’s Republic of China manufactured over 95% of the solar photovoltaic modules.

This is just what happens if you don’t constantly spray weed killer and only plant some non native grass bullshit.

Probably don’t want so much of it up again concrete structures, roots can do a lot of damage to it, but otherwise it’s a pretty low effort aesthetic.

It would probably be really bad for the concrete on that bridge to be this overgrown. This is kind of a pet peeve of mine. You don’t get “green utopia” by planting plants on buildings, you get a maintenance nightmare. Those roots are going to wreck the structure.

The one with the solar panels reminds me of a Tiktok I saw from China. They put up a solar farm in the desert. They have to clean the panels once in a while and that water combined with the shade from the panels made it possible for grass and plants to grow around the panels. At first they sent people to cut down the grass once in a while but then they discovered that it was easier just to let sheep graze under the panels.

We have a heap of solar farms here that are also farming sheep. Pretty neat dual use for the land. Chuds are fuming though about putting solar panels over agricultural land, even though the land is pretty hilly and not really suited to farming anything but livestock

This reminds me of the story where China reintroduced almost extinct wild horses to Xinjian to combat desertification:

I like this depicted with cities much more than the other aesthetic that just presents white people as farm owners where the labourers are replaced with robots.

Given China’s very successful and deliberate campaign to reforest cities, this checks out

Shame that solarpunk is dominated by anarchists. Seriously, all solarpunk fans I met were sympathetic to anarchism

(quoting because I disagree with the removal, am ancom, whatcha gonna do, mods)

I agree, it would be really cool to see Marxists better represented in the genre too.

The reason you like it is because of the anarchists, not in spite of it. Most anarchist theory has to do with ecology and anthropology.

There’s a book called Seeing Like a State which goes into detail about this. States don’t like nature, they want neat orderly things which are easy to plan from the top down.
