I think FT will find that it’s not poaching; that’s just where the educators fleeing the US landed.
Canada’s not trying to woo US educators to Canada; they’re trying to be more attractive than Germany and China to those already leaving.
But as this trade war ramps up, we’re going to see an increase in this “Canada stealing our <insert thing here> rhetoric out of US media.
That would make some more sense, given that we’re cutting scientists from the public service.
A title from a non-american source with actual journalism would say “Scientific community flees American fascism. Canada accepts academic refugees and supports their research.”
Probably on some things, even if it’s blatantly false. However, I don’t see “Canada is stealing our scientists/researchers/academics” as being of concern to a large part of the US voting base.
Seems like they would consider it ‘owning the libs’.
For them, logic works both ways; they can persecute the academics and cut their funding to own the libs while also threaten war on Canada for stealing the same people.
