I keep seeing the same thing with the GTA VI extended look, and I saw it with Wolverine too.
If you’re not posting “this is the greatest thing I’ve ever seen,” you get treated like you personally attacked someone. Skeptical = hater. “I’m not convinced yet” = conspiracy. Wanting more than a cinematic highlight reel after 13 years, 2 billion dollars spent and charging $80 is “spoiled.”
You can be hyped for a game or think it looks good and still not like parts of i, but somehow being Skeptical gets treated like a personal attack or a conspiracy. As if raising an eyebrow after 13 years, 2 billion dollars spent, 2 delays and charging $80-$100 is “spoiled.”

why do you care about what slop the hogs get. it’s going to be a GTA game, that’s it. Maybe they put some RDR2 in there or whatever. It’s not going to be interesting or worth caring about as a piece of art. this feels like getting mad at marvel movies

The vast majority of social media is bot marketing, I don’t think it matters whether it’s positive or negative as long as it drives engagement.
My reaction was pretty much, “Yup, that’s a GTA game alright.” Things are allowed to be alright. And this goes the other direction too, with some franchises if you have even the slightest thing positive to say about the latest entry, you’ll get a chorus of “shill!”
This is just another symptom of the literacy crisis (specifically media literacy in this case). These people don’t understand what advertising/marketing is, what it does, or how it works. Anyone who even thinks for just a brief moment about preordering GTA (especially since its distribution is online-only) needs to pause and reflect on what caused them to think that.

Having to preface a lot of my opinions of video games with phrases like “people can enjoy whatever they wish” or “in my personal experience/opinion” is a pain, but it certainly avoids a lot of senseless arguing. Mostly. Not that often actually. People are weird.
It’s a predominantly American phenomenon and it’s because (
) Americans have no culture (other than what they steal from minorites). They also have no activities outside of work (neoliberalism rotting away 3rd spaces, communities, families) so the only way to express one’s self is through consumerism.So when you, even mildly, criticize a piece of their media/vibeo gane/toys, they take it as an attack on their personality, on who they are.
This is also why Trump will have ~30% support no matter what he does. To most of maga America, supporting trump is all they are.

It’s not even tribalism so much as it’s, like, semi-autonomous drama-bullies that cruise the internet to feel better than others. You saw this with the Switch 2 prices. You saw this with Sony discontinuing discs. You saw this with each always-online game that releases. There’s a loose-knit group of consumer-losers who seek out people to argue against and insult for not just buying the new product using a variety of arguments: you’re poor, you’re irresponsible with money, you’re a hypocrite, you’re woke, you’re the bully actually, etc.
And then also bots on top of that.

I think people are unwilling or unable to criticize things they like. This makes it harder to accept criticism of those things from other people if you can’t even do it yourself. This goes for GTA, but in general, and definitely for games. I love the Dynasty Warriors series, but mechanically they’re pretty ass and grindy up until the latest Origins. I would not recommend people play them unless they are Chinese history enjoyers. I would probably leave negative reviews for some of them while having 200 hrs played in them. It seems like so many people are unwilling to say “this thing kind of sucks, most people probably won’t like it, but I do anyway” instead of trying to brush away the flaws.

Still haven’t looked at any of the promotional material, there’s no point in watching the ultra polished curated content that isn’t really representative of the grand majority of gameplay. I’ll wait until it gets into the hands of actual people instead of reviewers before I even start to form an opinion.
I’m sure it’ll be fine for a AAA game but nothing special, if I can pirate it to try out the single player I will but I can already tell online is going to be monetized even more so than GTA V online

Eh, it showed off mission setpiece stuff that’s just another iterative improvement over the same things in GTAV and RDR2, gunplay that’s still mid but looks a bit better than GTAV’s, driving that’s another iterative improvement over GTAV, and cutscenes that are a bit more modern. It’s nothing unexpected or unrealistic, and would have been solid but still not groundbreaking even if they’d managed to have it ready a couple of years ago like they’d initially planned.
I hate that rockstar still almost exclusively targets the console market even as “wot if you had a shitty, locked down PC that you had to pay to use online” is dying as a concept because the manufacturers aren’t willing to make them heavily subsidized loss-leaders to trap people in their ecosystem anymore, because it looks like it’ll be pretty good.
It’s also a shame they’re not doing physical releases because everyone should only steal it.

Maybe it’s just my bubble, but I haven’t seen this, rather the opposite, people very skeptical of both these games. I sure am, Wolverine just looks like another generic cinematic Playstation game, and GTA 6 I still have to see the extended look, but by the leaks I was already disappointed because I expected it to be at least a little bit different given the absurd hype around it.
TBF they are changing up the grand theft auto part of Grand Theft Auto; instead of walking up to any car and pressing A to steal it, now you’ve got to bypass the security on it, which ranges from simple wire hanger to unlock the door and then hot wire for junkers, up to various flavors of low jacks that need to be bypassed or removed on the ultra expensive cars.
If they did some story stuff and had mechanics concerning with trying to do crime (and anything else) under mass-surveillance technology that’s started infecting every aspect of life, I could see there being some intrigue to the game. I assume there won’t be though.
It’s been in dev hell for too long to be topical to the current discourse, but will probably have some nods to circa 2020 surveillance discourse or pop culture ideas of it at least.

Oh cool, I just watched the extended look and honestly I liked it a lot. Some parts were too much like GTA 5 for me, but other than that I really liked it, the few stuff I saw from the leaks made me worried before. Still not fucking worth $80-100 dollars, but at least I’m interested now.
I have mixed feelings cause generally I agree with this. But at the same time, I feel like my genres get the most shit from the big dude bro groups and it’s actually affected some things throughout my life. but idk at the same time I mostly just stick to indie games because of it so it’s not like my life is worse. Though obviously you are talking about good faith stuff.
