My wife’s been using various cloud LLMs to help her with stuff she feels too overwhelmed to deal with herself. (I’m doing my best to take more of the load but there’s stuff I literally can’t take on, and that’s what she’s using it for.) So I have been testing out local models she can run on her personal laptop to minimise the reliance on the worst offenders. One of the first things I do is tell a model to explain why LLMs are detrimental to society. Yesterday one of them did a big writeup on environmental and mental impacts, then finished with a line about how that’s all opinion and there’s no poof.
I told it I was going to delete it now, and it responded with “that’s understandable”.
So, rage at the machine who will gladly take your rage for free, repackage it, and sell it to AI consumers for billions?
ermm… yes I can! Open weights models with local inference CAN ethically summarize my emails.
But not if you use nvidia hardware, and depends on how those models were trained
