CENTCOM acknowledged in a press release on Thursday that a U.S. KC-135 refueling aircraft was lost “in friendly airspace during Operation Epic Fury,” emphasizing that the incident “was not due to hostile fire or friendly fire.” It comes after the Kuwaiti Air Force shot down three U.S. Air Force F-15E Strike Eagles in another incident last week, CENTCOM confirmed.
In the short statement, CENTCOM said two aircraft were involved in the incident, during which one aircraft crashed in western Iraq while the other aircraft landed safely. Rescue efforts remain ongoing, they added.
