We over charged you and you can suck it.
And that’s a surprise to… absolutely no one
This entire scheme was a combination of market manipulation along with a universal price hike. A lot of very rich people got a lot richer. They got to engage in insider trading while massively increasing prices while pretending they had no choice.
TBF, I’m not getting one from Linux, either.
You’re not? I got the same amount I spent back.
Same here!
If the government wanted the people to have it they could have stipulated that or, better yet, given it directly to the people. You need a complicit government for ‘privatized profit; socialized loses’
People are butthurt about this but don’t have the willpower to not buy or use their products.
Or to vote for someone who has more than one word in their vocabulary: tariffs
Sucks but it’s true. I’ve been trying to de-microsoft my household for over a year now. My partner won’t switch away from Windows, despite how fucking bad 11 is, and we’re still paying for office 365, even though I haven’t used MS office on a non-company computer for about 15 years at this point.
I haven’t had anything sony in decades. Everything I got from them was overpriced trash that broke under very meager circumstances.
Next on my chopping block is Google. Once the my phone is paid off, I’m switching to Graphene. Currently trying out open street maps, and trying to spin up my own email server so I can ditch my Gmail account.
No one could have possibly anticipated this
*no one
Fixed, thx
Yes, that’s correct, they are under no obligation. Obviously. It would be nice if they did that, but there is obviously no obligation.
why?
because fuck you. that’s why.
And they’re not.
And you’re not obligated to buy their products
Is piracy a thing on modern consoles?
99% of the games worth playing on them come out on PC, so yes.
Depends on your firmware and such. It often takes time, but they’ll all be jailbroken eventually.
Not even true
Use emulation. Can’t play the latest, but there’s no shortage
I figured. DS had great piracy, which is where my burgeoning hope was pulled from.
Switch has great support too. Older models could be modded without requiring hardware modification the later ones like the oled did.
Look into the bounty on a PS5 firmware crack.
15k seems like a nice sum. I’m guessing it’s pretty locked down if a few months’ pay hasn’t led to anything
Or it could be an attempt to drive the sum up since Sony pay for bugs found. That said, these things take time to find too.
And I don’t. Those 800 games that I haven’t touched aren’t going to play themselves.
Neither one sussists on consumer products lol
Just to highlight the good actors too:
For one thing, Arctic announced a price rollback after securing its refund, saying this will continue until “every single dollar Arctic received […] has been paid back to our customers.”
Panic, maker of the Playdate handheld, has taken a bolder stance, offering refunds to those who bought its console and were charged extra for its tariffs. Company co-founder Cabel Sasser said last month, “It’s just not our money to keep.”
Playdate handheld
That thing is so hilariously overpriced in the first place, that a few bucks don’t make any difference neither to the seller, nor the consumer.
Nice of them regardless, but I totally agree. The playdate is a neat toy but it’s wild how successful they are considering it costs $230 and most games on it are paid. You could buy a similarly neat retro handheld for only $50!
It’s a trait of a certain market of quirky and unique high-quality devices. E.g. the Dirtywave M8 music tracker was sold at 650$. But they also provide the software freely, and one can diy it on a Raspberry Pi.
TBF I have a Chinese handheld for emulators, and discovered online that the screws on it are positioned such that the heads can pierce the battery when it swells. This was after the battery completely died in a year of disuse, so I was looking up replacements.
I really hate that companies being hostile to their customers has become normalised such that it’s really expected.
There’s very clearly a right and scrupulous thing to do. Not having an obligation to do that is not an excuse not to.
Companies always has been hostile when they are so big that they are only fathomable as market entity. Privatise gains, socialise losses.
I disagree.
Yes companies have privatised profits and socialised losses since forever, thats not what I’m talking about.
Its not that long ago that you could talk to an actual person in customer service who at least had a supervisor with the authority to do provide an appropriate resolution.
Now the standard mode of operation is to simply close ranks, and make a PR statement like this… “we’re not going to do that simply because you can’t make us”.
The reality is that it was all just a way to give a stimulus to companies without saying directly
That’s obvious, and it’s not what I’m talking about.
Unpopular opinion I guess, but sure. Why should they? They sold good for a price they deemed worthy, calculated their dues and risk, and customer bought it for this price.
Companies have to maximize their profit.
People should not be mad at those companies. Proper targets are: Those who created unlawful taxes, capitalism or the specific rules within capitalism or the (in this case) the USA.
🐧
I can’t really blame them. I wouldn’t expect a check in the mail from Starbucks because of their coffee bean tariffs were refunded.
Starbucks doesn’t require you to have a verified identity, contact information, and credit card on file to buy beans. The companies in question could do this with the click of a button.
Okay then I don’t expect my local deli to give me a 50 cent refund on a turkey sandwich. Don’t be pedantic.
I literally agreed with you about that. Read before you snark.
