There might be some sort of community organizing in your area, whether it’s a self help group or a casual get together. Maybe there is a local trans discord. If you have any queer community outreach spaces, they’re a good place to start. Otherwise, you could contact people through services offering gender affirming care like planed parenthood. I found a local trans meetup because they had flyers at my speech therapist’s office. From my experience, self defense classes for trans people can become fairly popular because it can be scary out there. Once you manage to reach out to people and they find you to be ok, they will probably bring friends. We tend to stick together.
I love the idea that someone goes “I’m going to go get some fresh air” and then all of a sudden: DON!!
I guess part of me was thinking about getting LGBT people to self-select as interested in BJJ or kickboxing. Wrestling with strangers is already a big ask of a random person who has everything going for them.
It seems a little bit short sighted in the sense that
Where am I going to find a bunch of trans people?
What do I do if they say yes? Where would I bring them? What would I teach them?
What if they ask “who the hell are you?” which is an entirely fair question.
And I already have a headache just putting it together after that. Fuck.
But you’re absolutely right, eventually I’m going to have to go say hi to someone somewhere

If they don’t respond well to this then they didn’t want to learn martial arts anyway.
