Well, I know what to think of it on a personal level. I wasn’t close with him as I barely saw him.

…Honestly the times I did see him he was constantly complaining about something and was a massive fascist sympathizer, so on those grounds I’m really not bothered by his death.

Anyway I was dragged along to his funeral. Eugh.

Fortunately I passed the time and eased my discomfort by reading the SCP Foundation wiki!

…Yeah maybe that wasn’t the best idea lol. I have a lot of really “good bad” ideas!

Perhaps the most depressing thing was looking at all my family members and observing how the believe he’s now in heaven.

I’m going to be blunt: THERE IS NO AFTERLIFE! There are no gods, no deities on which to rely.

How the hell does some guy from the early Roman Empire come to the correct conclusion about what happens after death yet here in the present I’m surrounded by people who believe there is an afterlife?

Seeing people grieve yet are under the impression their loved one is still in existence somewhere is heart wrenching.

Promising a pleasant afterlife has got to be the most malevolent shit personalized religions do. That’s not hope, that’s an unhealthy coping mechanism for dealing with death.

The pastor eventually comes up to deliver the speech regarding what my uncle achieved in his life.

Lots of stuff! Went to school! He uh… Joined the world’s largest terrorist organization (well I mean, at least that explains the Trump fanaticism). He… He fixed things! Supposedly was very helpful towards other people!

Yeah I know you’re not going to be brutally honest and go “Oh yeah, this guy was a total ASS! Somewhat mean and unpleasant to be around you know? Constantly complained about things!”

I’m all for being crass, but I know when to shut up lol.

What I was hoping to learn was what my uncle got up to. You know: Projects. Hobbies. Personal values. Stuff he made.

Fuck, his children! Personally speaking if I had children they’d be my most prized accomplishment! (Yeah I’m vanilla like that lol.)

Idk, like, go on an info dump about how he enjoyed deer hunting. I’m certain he had some shenanigans go down involving that. Yes the funeral has a time limit, but tell one of them atleast!

Just… Depressing.

That’s all not how I’d like to be remembered, I’ll tell you that.

this isnt how kids work. your involvement is best effort, and the results are only mostly related to that effort.

imagine a birth suite with a woman being handed her newborn baby. “I’ll name him John Wayne, and he will be the best thing I’ve ever done”, said Mrs. Gacy, probably.

Yeah it’s one of those “intellectual instincts”.

Maybe I’ll have children one day, but maybe I won’t. Children are a massive responsibility I can’t just take lightly, and I am scared I’ll screw it up somehow.

But I know I sure as hell won’t have them in the immediate future!

A.) I’m not currently equipped to take on something like that.

B.) Subjecting yet more people to the fascist hellscape that is the United States is just cruel.

For now I’m happy babysitting my mom’s friend’s six year old.
