It seems he’s using the Trump playbook for his defence

In a defiant statement, Menendez defended himself against “baseless allegations” and theorized that he was being targeted by “the powers that be” because “they see me as an obstacle in the way of their broader political goals.”

Replace “powers that be” with “the deep state” and replace “baseless allegations” with “witchunt” and we’re at a Trump truth social post.

Sounds like he pushed the grift a little too far

Senator Menendez “improperly advised and pressured” a high-level official at the Department of Agriculture to demand they stop interfering in the IS EG Halal monopoly that prosecutors say was “detrimental to US interests”.

He got busted because of halal foods, not the arms deals? Are we all fucked?

It’s a little on the nose that this happened 2 days after Senators were claiming that hoodies and basketball shorts threaten the majesté of the Senate. (Although, I have to admit, getting bribed in gold bars and suitcases of cash is a classic look.)

$100k in gold bars didn’t seem like a lot to me, so I looked it up. One ounce of gold goes for about $2000, so he had about 50 ounces of gold (or a little over 3lbs). It’s still a lot, but it’s not like he had Fort Knox hidden under his bed.

Note: I am not defending him. I’m more commenting on the headline sensationalizing him having gold bars.

Nadine agreed with you, this was reported: Nadine later complained to Senator Menendez that Hana was not fulfilling his promises to make payments to her in exchange for the favours.

“Will (Wael Hana) left for Egypt yesterday supposedly and now thinks he’s king of the world and has both countries wrapped around his pinky. I really hope they replace him,” she wrote to Senator Menendez, who was her boyfriend at the time.
