Today I filed a formal complaint against #YouTube with the Irish Data Protection Commissioner for their illegal deployment of #adblock detection technologies.
Under Article 5(3) of 2002/58/EC YouTube are legally obligated to obtain consent before storing or accessing information already stored on an end user's terminal equipment unless it is strictly necessary for the provisions of the requested service.
In 2016 the EU Commission confirmed in writing that adblock detection requires consent.
They are rolling it out in the same iterative way they roll out all their stuff. It’s not going to everyone at once. Are you just hearing about this recently? Because it’s been tested in larger and larger groups over time.
I used Ublock to block the anti-adblock message, and it worked… so…
uBlock Origin tried that briefly. Google maneuvered around it pretty quickly.
I haven’t seen an ad or Adblock notification on YouTube in years. Methods abound.

As I understood it, this rolled out to 100% of users a short while ago. Aside from those with unique blocking mechanisms.
No. They just increased the size of the beta group.
It works for me too, until I reach my limit of 3 daily videos, when I cannot watch more videos until the next day, whether ublock or not.
