Highly recommend checking out wefwef - closest option to an Apollo clone as I’ve seen so far in terms of UI and functionality, and doesn’t even need to be installed. Memmy is a very good second place option, but I’ve been using wefwef since I heard about it yesterday and ZI think it’s better.
It’s good but laggy. Swiping doesn’t feels native unfortunately.
Are you using it as an installed PWA? I’m not having any issues with animations or scrolling. I have run into a few weird UI bugs with slide up menus within communities, but that’s about it.
As the Memmy dev I can also highly recommend wefwef. Great product for such a short lifespan.
Quick question: I noticed the API calls aren’t (weren’t?) compressed, is that on purpose?
Going outbound or inbound? Outbound the requests are super basic, inbound they are pretty large. There’s a lot of limitations on that.
For example to get basic user info you have to receive a bunch of other information that you’re not going to bother using. Hopefully in time this will get changed, because there’s no reason to be receiving so much data whenever you really only need a few bytes.
the json coming back from requests like showing a thread was not compressed when I checked yesterday (firefox on ubuntu): https://discuss.tchncs.de/pictrs/image/1a99e758-deaa-46f6-8eff-3aa2158858ad.png
but I just checked again and now it’s correctly responding with compression (chrome on windows)
Ohh you’re referring to wefwef. I’m not the wefwef dev, I’m the memmy dev. Thought you were talking about API calls memmy makes.
Thanks for all you’re doing!
I love your app
I do have installed as a PWA, and although I’m really liking it visually, it’s a bit buggy. I’d like to know if the bugginess is because of its beta status or the fact that it’s not native.
If it’s the latter, it’d be unfortunate since it’s making my switch to Lemmy so much smoother as I feel like I’m using Apollo, which I’m very used to.
It’s probably a bit of both - wefwef has been around for literally just days at this point I believe, so I have high hopes it will continue to improve.
Beyond that, there are a lot of people who feel Apollo is/was the best user experience for Reddit, and there will be a LOT of devs trying to emulate that - one way or another, we’re going to get a high-quality Apollo replacement eventually.
Thats’s fair, most, if not all, of these apps has just started development, and it’s pretty impressive what they’ve accomplished so far.
Right now I feel like when Mastodon started to grow exponentially last year, all of a sudden there were a ton of new pretty good clients. I can see something similar happening here.
I gotta say tho that although using wefwef is helping me getting used to not open Apollo, I think it would be really great if it grows to become its own thing once the platform matures.
I started with Mlem and wasn’t a huge fan and was primarily using Memmy. But I decided to try mlem again as it’s been a while and it looks much better! Might be my new daily driver. I’ll give wefwef a try too.
Yeah like a week after I joined they completely changed the display, and it’s been my heavy hitter. Wefwef feels like I never left Apollo though.
Wow WefWef as a PWA is super nice.
Using it right now. So far it’s nice. But I have like 7 plus the browser. See which becomes my default in time. I am just so used to RIF it’s going take an adjustment.

It worked for me once I logged in.
It’s great, but I really wish it had the equivalent of Apollo’s “compact” mode!
They just shipped it minutes ago! Second release in less than 24h lol
I love Memmy, but that icon looks like a clown tick.
We already are looking at adding community icons. 🤘
I’m keeping Apollo on my phone for the memories 😢
Same with Infinity😅
Infinity for Everything (Threadiverse) is under development.
I deleted rif because I absolutely will click on it just by habbit
I will keep sync on my phone because everytime I accidentally open it, I will remember why I dislike reddit and vow never to go back.
I just changed the connect for lemmy icon to the Rif icon because it just felt weird without it.
I started using jerboa cause of a random suggestion, how does everyone feel about it? I noticed it doesnt collect user data and I think it said it encrypts stuff, which I like for privacy
I’ve only started using it, but I’m liking it alright. That being said, I’m going to use Sync as soon as it’s available.
After being here for 5 minutes. After not knowing how to login 6 minutes ago.
I’ve already forgot reddit exists.
What’s Reddit?
What’s Reddit?
Reddit? Never heard that before
I am still getting used to it coming from RIF but it’s growing on me.

Same doesn’t seem bad, just not what I’m used to.
Same doesn’t seem bad, just not what I’m used to.
I had to switch to connect for Lemmy, as jerboa was bugging out and not showing me anything on my feed from outside my local instance.
Waiting for sync for Lemmy but it’s roughly 6 weeks away from release according to developer.
Same, I do wish connect had quick buttons to move between connects. You can collapse a comment section by holding down the parent comment, but I haven’t found a way to navigate quickly.
Connect dev here. It’s coming! I like that feature a lot too.
I couldn’t login two weeks and had to do it on thed web page. I can’t download images in comment sections :(
I’m using it. I like it better than connect which is the only other one on the play store right now. There are more but you have to install them off github. I’ll just wait till they make it to play store to try those out.
I’m using it. I came from Relay. I like Jerboa because it has two features I really liked in Relay, colour-coded threads for readability, and swiping to get back from a comment section to the main feed. I’m not too fussy other than that (dark mode and small font also appreciated though). It works well for me in general, I can switch between my accounts easily which I like, though there was a bit where my instances weren’t up-to-date enough for the app and notifications have been a bit on/off, but that’s teething problems. It also sometimes forgets my preference for defaulting to all > today, it puts it back on active.
I’m using liftoff and I like it more, because it remembers that I only want posts from the communities that I’m subscribed to.
I would’ve liked to try it, but it crashes on app launch :/ using Connect For Lemmy instead
Memmy has seriously improved over the past two weeks, it’s development has been extremely fast and I’m very impressed with my limited casual use so far.
I am enjoying memmy
The dev has done very well for such early releases.
Same
I’ve got like 4 downloaded right now
I’ve got 5
- Mlem
- Memmy
- WefWef
- Thunder
- Liftoff
The more the better
I have 6 downloaded so I can try them all. Lmao
Jerboa
Connect
Liftoff
Lemmur
Thunder
WefwefEdit: Connect was my favorite until i realized its absolutely riddled with trackers. RIP. Currently trying Wefwef but ill probably come back to Jerboa.
Which Reddit client are you coming from? Which Lemmy app are you enjoying the most right now? I’m an Android user coming from RIF. So far I have the most experience with Wefwef and Jerboa, and Wefwef is winning by leaps and bounds. I haven’t tried too much of the rest, but I’m curious of your opinion on them if you’ve tried them all!
I’m from RIF. I still haven’t tried the other ones because I’ve been doing other stuff. Lol
Fair!
Connect was my favorite until i realized its absolutely riddled with trackers. RIP. Currently trying Wefwef but ill probably come back to Jerboa.
Excited to try Boost when it releases.
I saw some post about the trackers but I didn’t really understand what that meant. Can you explain?
I just changed the connect for lemmy icon to the Rif icon because it just felt weird without it lol
I wonder if Christian can reuse Apollo as a Lemmy client and keep the project going
Wefwef is a web app that is a near carbon copy of Apollo. It’s how I’m browsing and it’s great. Much better than the web interface.
I’ve got that bookmarked and it is great, but I’ve been using Memmy for now. It does the slide for up/down votes (or whatever they’re called here) but a slightly different UI
I think he’s mentioned he doesn’t really have an interest in that right now. But I wish so too.
Apollo is more like the wife who was murdered by Reddit, now watching you from heaven, hoping that you find a new social media platform to make you happy.
🤌
FYI, Memmy was JUST submitted to the AppStore at 8am yesterday. It’s waiting on review. 🤞
Any prior RIF users with some advice for which app to switch to for Lemmy?
I’m using Connect for Lemmy and so far it’s fairly good.
The only thing I’d change about Connect is the visability of comment interaction buttons but other than that with a few tweaks to font sizes and stuff it’s a fairly similar experience to RIF.
The developer of Sync is porting it to Lemmy. The initial release should happen in the next 6 weeks.
I’ll second Wefwef. It’s pretty slick.
Check out WefWef for Lemmy
Connect for Lemmy, so far so good
Tried a few of these apps so far. Connect is really nice! It seems really snappy, and got it mostly working just like how I’d had RIF setup before.
It’s wild seeing the difference in number of votes and comments today compared to the last week or so since I signed up.
