July 3 (Reuters) - Elon Musk’s Twitter has put a temporary limit on the number of tweets that users can see each day, a move that has sparked some backlash and could undermine the social network’s efforts to attract advertisers.
The limit, imposed to “address extreme levels of data scraping and system manipulation”, is the latest change by Twitter, which was last year acquired by Musk for $44 billion.
What does the latest change mean and what are the alternatives to Twitter? How do the changes impact users?
Users cannot view tweets without logging in to the platform. Verified accounts can now read 6,000 posts per day, unverified accounts 600 posts and new un-verified accounts 300 posts. After that, users will get a message that says, “rate limit exceeded”.

I mean, I wasn’t expecting to quit Reddit and Twitter at the same time, but here we are.
I really only used Twitter to get updates on the Ukraine war. Now that the posts have basically stopped, there’s no point in going there.
There are some good Telegram accounts for this if you want an alternative to Twitter, perhaps there are fedi options too but I’m unfortunately unaware if so
Lemmy has quite a few as does mastodon i believe
Would you mind sharing some? 😃
On my phone so I can’t list them but I found every single one by searching “ukraine” in the lemmy and mastodon searches
Sounds obvious in hindsight 🙈 thanks!
Can you share the lemmy communities?

Yep, I’m sure there are. I just had a consistent view from the 3 people I looked at on Twitter. The Telegram channels are often fraught with propaganda from either side and I’d like to avoid it as much as possible. We’ll see if this stuff blows over in the near term

The Reddit side isn’t very useful. The comments are especially bad on those. Like the /r/Ukraine subreddit - way too pro Ukraine and has some of the most moronic takes.
Who the fuck wouldn’t be pro Ukraine bruh
You completely missed the point
I never really used twitter but the few accounts I’ve seen that follow the war were also very pro-Ukraine. What is a good source for an accurate picture of what’s happening (I’m not looking for pro-Russian, either, fuck Russia)?
I follow Kofmanmichael and RALee85. They’re pro Ukraine but they give more realistic views of what’s happening without a lot of thé propaganda. They are happy to criticize Ukraine when it’s doing something wrong as well which is good to see. I think Michael works for CNA and Rob works for FPRI. I’ll also follow some of the accounts they retweet from time to time as they tend to be good sources as well (Tatarigami_UA and Defmon3).
I couldn’t help but get this tingling feeling that Elon was going to buy reddit and fuck it up after he shut down twitter…to punish us mortals for not building enough altars to his martian lowness :P
