Advances in technology, meanwhile, allow campaigns to calibrate their outreach to only the most persuadable voters. The upshot is that a tiny segment of the population will get an outsize say in who leads the United States. And the will of the majority may not even prevail.

"If it’s between them, I’m going to say this: Trump was hilarious. He was hilarious,” said Monk, 43, who lives in the Milwaukee area. Biden, meanwhile, has not delivered the change he expected, leaving Monk unsure. “I would say, it’s kind of up in the air.”

It’s morons like this that boggle my mind.

If you literally cannot see the fact that republicans are on purpose blocking legislation designed to help you then I wonder what company this idiot is running and how it is still in business. Because that motherfucker lacks critical thinking.

      It could also be

      • business relationships with Trumpists keep him from speaking honestly
      • paying attention to day to day life and not the news

The later most likely. And if the only news he consumes is Fox, it explains much.

My senior sister was the former case. Not too long after Trump took office, she only had a vague notion that Trump wasn’t a very nice guy. That’s when her and I started talking politics for the first time. It was stunning that she hadn’t heard anything about the man.

As to Fox News, if I were Dictator of the United States, that shit would be off air instantly. It would be the very first order I sign.

I think most liberals have heard some of the heinous shit Fox has pulled, seen some clips here and there, but it’s hard to truly grasp what an effective propaganda machine they are until you’re forced to watch nothing but Fox for a whole week.

My hell week was at the time of Snowden’s spying revelations. Nationally, and possibly internationally, it was the biggest news going. One whole week of Fox, and I heard zero mention of it. None.

Know what I heard? “Obama, Obama, Obama bama, Obama Obama ObamaObamaObama” Fuck me. I was starting to hate the man! And it wasn’t all bullshit about him, they simply repeated the name so obsessively I never wanted to hear about him again. And it was never, “President Obama”. I asked my friend’s father, a very smart man, if he didn’t notice the obvious brain-washing tactic and he just shoulder shrugged. Meanwhile his wife sat in her Lazy-Boy screaming, “The KKK needs to do their got damned JOB!” Seriously.

01/06, I turned to Fox’s website, which is far more “fair and balanced” than the TV version. Nothing. Not a single headline, and that story was surely the biggest news on the planet that day.

Some people I can’t explain. Our server at the Mexican joint the other day saw me on CNN and it had a picture of Trump. He asked me who I wanted the next President to me. I couldn’t quite get what he said, because he barely speaks English, but he seemed to think perhaps I was MAGA, and he was considering Trump. A Mexican man. Who barely speaks English.

I really wish they’d say what’s hilarious about Trump. I’ve heard other people say that about conservative politicians because they find (relatively) progressive politicians sanctimonious/alienating and like seeing them mocked or pissed off.

      Which I totally understand.

But it’s a terrible way to choose who you’re going to vote for.

Isn’t that true in all closely fought races? They’re listing swing ridings that are likely to change.

Canada has been the same way for most of the federal elections since 2000 - there are a handful of ridings that can swing, and that decides which party wins.

Same problem, but states are a lot bigger (in terms of population) than ridings, and there are a lot fewer of them (50 vs 338)
