i dont think ive ever heard a single policy plan from starmer that wasn’t mealy mouthed, ghoulish, and also delivered or worded terribly. just in terms of his skills as a politician, he might be the worst head of government in the western world. it’s kind of impressive, like scoring a perfect 0 on a multiple choice test
Chris Smalls, cofounder of the union for amazon workers, was on the latest Freedom Flotilla for Gaza and has been severely beaten by Israeli cops in detention. Smalls, who is Black, was the only abducted member of the crew to suffer such violence. he and the other activists are on a hunger strike https://xcancel.com/GazaFFlotilla/status/1950053773835108448#m
larry david taught me to sitpiss at night with an episode of curb. iirc his father in law puts the seat up and larry doesnt notice at night and falls in. idk why in his massive house he and his father and law were sharing a bathroom now that i think about it. anyway its a good idea
oh yeah he was absolutely involved with epstein’s crimes, i just think him calling it a “privilege” to go to the island is telling
he might actually be 18, the only requirement to run for governor is that you are registered to vote in the state, a friend of mine “ran for governor” here in college around that age as a joke since all you are required to do to is fill out a paper or two. to actually get on the ballot is a different story though
kojima was inspired by the bokka porters in japan, they dont use carts because they are mostly traversing marshy meadows and steep slopes i think. sam bridges carries the stuff because its cooler that way
he stole credit card info from his own donors to buy onlyfans subscriptions among other things lol. iirc one of the people he defrauded was the mother of another member of congress
i fucking hate the spread of ai so much. i’ve noticed for a while now that in ddg wikipedia pages will now have an ai summary instead of just using the first sentence or two for their subheader when i have never heard of anyone having any problem with the old way. now search results from reddit will do the same thing. i think it’s an unlabelled ddg thing because when i searched for the same thing on bing i didn’t get the ai summary for the wiki page, though i did get the summary for the reddit page. the ai summary had a pretty big spoiler for the thing i was looking up too so i am glad i had finished it beforehand lol
i also found it pretty unbelievable that the gangsters were apparently even entertaining the idea of giving them fake passports lol
just finished s2 of the wire, my first time watching the show. while i’ve enjoyed it a lot so far and it is definitely better written than most cop shows, i thought the way they killed off frank sobotka felt contrived and poorly written. i get that he had to die for the sake of the metaphor but he was a smart guy and he didn’t seem at all like he wanted to die, so having him choose to go meet up with a bunch of gangsters under a fucking bridge right after talking to the cops felt like it was really dumb and out of character. reminded me of a similar thing towards or at the end of tokyo vice s1 which i thought was so dumb it made me stop watching the show altogether. i won’t stop watching the wire but this felt like the first major misstep so far
i kinda feel like it was too visceral for its own good you know?
you never hear people calling condoms “scumbags” anymore. in fact i don’t think i ever have in real life and i only encountered that meaning for the first time last night in a book
i for one am not gonna be too upset about a dude with SS tattoos being off the streets
choosing to believe this is a case of nominative determinism and not that the dude just changed his name after he became a nazi

Things are great for the US economy at the moment:
“May’s estimated 144,000 net gain [in jobs] was revised down by 125,000 to 19,000; and June’s preliminary tally of 147,000 was slashed by 133,000 to 14,000, according to data released Friday from the Bureau of Labor Statistics … the meager job gains in June were the weakest since December 2020, the last time the labor market had monthly job losses. The pace of job creation seen so far this year is the weakest in decades, outside of recessions … Health care and social assistance, which added 73,300 jobs, accounted for the entirety of [July]’s gains.”
I’m sure the big beautiful bill’s cuts to health care and social services will make things even better
