    • Dems are cowards so I can’t say ‘this will push them into action!’ but I’d anticipate opposition to this.
    • Def a sprinkling of the frontier turning inwards as we restrict freedom of movement for opponents of the regime
    • I don’t see this having popular support [since when does that matter?]. Maybe I am being too generous but the Republican voters, despite being braying hogs, don’t see themselves as Nazis and having the sec state pull folks’ passports for speech is a little on the nose. So this overtly fascist policy might create some friction with the conservatives who broadly - in my estimation and I may be wrong - are allergic to seeing themselves as fascist.
    • This is a good indication of what I’ve noticed in the past two years of Israel’s war against Hamas genocidal Zionist campaign to eliminate and displace the Palestinians, which is existential to the settler-colony’s very being. We in the West had almost just barely gotten out of the GWOT era framing of things and the establishment crackdown on genocide resistance really allows our leadership to get the band back together and play the old hits such as anti-Arab racism and Islamophobia and saying everything they don’t like is terrorism.
    • Hat tip to whoever it was on here that mentioned you can bypass a paywall on desktop by putting the article in reader mode.

  • No no you don’t understand, we heard the same rumor 6 times and they all heard it from the same source, so we are very serious journalists who can report we’re hearing it from multiple sources.

I’m not even dismissing that the roommate could’ve known more than they should’ve, but the way the fuzz is trying to make this fit a narrative is so obvious and so heinously directed at scapegoating a GSM group, it’s appaling.

Also the bit about going after other leftist groups, yeah freakin’ right, the powers that be would love it that were the case, but no freakin’ shot.

  • From wikipedia

The original Henry rifle was a sixteen-shot .44 caliber rimfire breech-loading lever-action rifle, patented by Benjamin Tyler Henry in 1860 …

At Vicksburg, Edward Downs of the 20th Ohio Volunteer Infantry Regiment and a noted sharpshooter, bought a Henry rifle from his own funds for $65 (equivalent to $1,700 in 2024) from a steamboat captain just prior to the Vicksburg battle …

For an American Civil War soldier, owning a Henry rifle was a point of pride.[5] Just 1,731 of the standard rifles were purchased by the government during the war.[6] The Commonwealth of Kentucky purchased a further 50. However, 6,000 to 7,000 saw use by the Union on the field through private purchases by soldiers who could afford it. … Many infantry soldiers purchased Henrys with their reenlistment bounties of 1864. Most of these units were associated with Sherman’s Western troops.

That’s a whole lotta free speech.

  • Just keeping up whatever personal/household/family emergency readiness plans you already have in place and if you are more based than me some kind of community defense planning.

Telling one or two conservative commentators that the shell casings had ‘pro-trans ideology’ is wild. The most charitable explanation is that the federal investigators are so out of their depth that they would leap to that interpretation and selectively release it to their favorite chud mouthpieces without regard for how inflammatory that is - but I don’t think that generous scenario of them being too dumb to do their job effectively withstands any scrutiny.

For MSM to immediately run with it is malpractice - color me surprised - and yeah also the media as self appointed understanders and explainers of what is going on are fully unable to interpret what they’re seeing.

  • That sucks, I actually have been lucky enough not to see that yet but it is thoroughly unsurprising. In the live threads this morning people were rightly asking ‘how fucked are we’ and I think there is valid fear around government repression of anyone they consider left. See the president and attorney general and chud commentators including Chuck ramping up rhetorical attacks on trans people writ large following the Annunciation school shooting.

But RW attacks against randos certainly seems like a real possibility. They like to talk a big game about kicking off their day of the rope fantasies and that is mostly keyboard warrior behavior, but it only takes one person that’s alienated and keyed up enough to go out an hurt an innocent person. I had seen there was already targeted harassment going after the livelihoods and reputations of anyone publicly posting indifference to the Finding Out event that happened.

I’m getting a bit tangential here, to bring it back to the main point, yes it seems like these conservative content creators (should i have gone with the obvious triple K alliteration there? My Maoist Standard English is a bit rusty) are reflexively going on to like you say create the next ragebait. I wonder if this is just like, instinctive behavior, or they’re being cynically rational, but I do wonder if they realize they’re doing something in the real world or if they think it’s all a game.

Chuck sure as hell thought he would keep this going forever, but life comes at you fast, 2,700 fps sometimes.

  • Definitely 100% sincere intentions by people who were genuinely moved at the loss of a beloved public speaker and thought leader, and in no way staged. Would love to see the poster they wanted printed out for their pRaYeR ViGiL lol. Also your man is dead for not even 2 days and you are trying to make yourself the characters in a faux-outrage cycle - this is the level of disdain opportunism, these folks can’t wait to cannibalize their own. I think people having seen this kind of bad faith manufacturing of victimhood by conservative crybullies for so long is part of why normies are unmoved by Chuck’s demise.
