When Al-Qaeda themselves claimed responsibility, even with overwhelming evidence aside? Why were so many people still reluctant, I was researching about this stuff and was shocked to see people who I respect a lot believe in this

The mainstream conspiracy theory is that the US knew about it but allowed it to happen for a reason to pass more restrictions like the Patriot Act. One fact we do know is that the CIA was actively still trying to recruit and turn one of the terrorists on one of the planes. So we have proof that the CIA knew about it.

We know that the majority of pilots were Saudi citizens

There’s more, but the CIA connection shows we knew about it before it happened.

My personal “hmmm” moment was how well the towers fell, almost as if they were controlled demoloshed, but I admit ignorance on the subject.

Good, because if you actually watch footage and look at the impact zone, they didn’t fall so well, “almost as if they were controlled demolished”. It’s something you can only believe if you refuse to actually spend more than 5 seconds looking into it.

You hit the nail right on the head there. They seem to confusecritical thinking with reading a conspiracy theory and immediately accepting it as fact

I lived near a building that was built in the seventies and collapsed from fire. I was near when it happened. This was about a decade after 9/11 but it cured me of all lingering conspiracy thoughts in a second.

I hear this, and in hindsight it makes sense to say, but put yourself back in the mindset of the late 90s. The US was a fucking giant. The world saw what happened after pearl harbor, I believe it was less of “allowing it to happen” and more of “we were so arrogant that we couldn’t believe anyone would be dumb enough to actually do it”.

It’s an age-old tactic to not try and stop something so that you can claim self-defense later.
