Weird how republicans keep doing everything that America is supposed to stand against. Almost like they are actually an enemy that infiltrated America and are trying to destroy it from the inside.

All this is too much. Trump needs to step down so the Republicans can nominate someone else at the convention.

Are you genuinely not familiar with the foreign money that goes into funding far-right movements in the West (and the US in particular)? Or the various international parties who stand to gain from having Trump elected?

You’re moving the goal posts. How do those prove “conservatives have been co-opted by foreign agents” and not just that conservatives are happy to take funding from other shitty people? You seriously think conservatives wouldn’t be fascist-adjacent if Russia wasn’t paying them?

No, I’m not moving the goalposts.

Your position seems to fall under black-and-white thinking. Either they’re home-grown, OR they’re manipulated through external influences, but not both. I’m saying that both are true. If you also believe that both are true, then we’re in agreement and I don’t think we need to argue about anything.

Foreign influence or not, they propose bad ideas and lie about everything to justify their bad ideas. Something that would irreparably damage a nation given enough time and they’ve had decades.

Almost like they are actually an enemy that infiltrated America and are trying to destroy it from the inside.

That’s exactly why they are getting so much support from Russia and why Russia and China are fucking with us over social media/the internet. They can’t win a traditional war and America largely stands against their goals so the best way to take us down is by having us do it to ourselves. I think Republicans are just too power hungry to serve their greed and they’re too naive/heartless to consider what they could actually do to the country by taking advantage of the disruption other countries are causing.

I actually really believe they’re going to succeed in “taking us down” and have already done severe damage to our “social fabric.” Hell we can claim without exaggerating that there are large portions of our population that are living in completely opposite versions of reality via the media they consume. Propaganda exists to serve a specific purpose.

It’s more deflection, Republicans rail against what Democrats supposedly want to do, then in the long run they just do it themselves.

But Raiklin is nothing if not self-assured that the “evidence” he’s gathering on anti-Trump “deep state” plotters is real. So real, it seems, that Raiklin claims the material — fully revealed — would establish probable cause for county sheriffs across the nation to issue arrest warrants for various high-ranking officials who have, in one way or another, run afoul of Trump.

Under Raiklin’s objectively bizarre plan, the sympathetic sheriffs would deputize some 75,000 military veterans — veterans he claims have been pushed out of service because they refused to comply with COVID-19 vaccine mandates — to carry out the arrests.

    Objectively bizarre

      It’s not at all

I mean, it is bizarre, yes. But it’s also terrifying. The undoing and overtaking of the democratically guard-railed structures of law enforcement is one of the last stages in a fascist collapse. After that, there’s basically nothing left.

They’re trying to figure out how to make an armed force that will go out and use deadly force in public on American streets against anyone who’s disloyal to the movement in any way. And, it’s vital to cloak it in a veneer of legitimacy - hence using friendly sheriffs, hence the confusing setup of “State Guards” by analogy with National Guard, but explicitly loyal to a person as opposed to the constitution. And, because a lot of these people will have friends in law enforcement and normal-looking badges and uniforms, and endorsement from the highest offices in the for real US government, the real law enforcement will hesitate to do anything about it, in a way they wouldn’t (as much) if it was a Patriot Front mob in khakis that was “arresting” a Democratic governor or whatever they are doing.

They’re not sure how to do it, yet, and what will work and what won’t. That’s why it’s so bizarre and hamfisted. But they keep trying, and no one’s stopping any of the explicitly seditious efforts which in any functioning democracy would be instantly recognized as the incredible danger that they are. And sooner or later, one of these things they try is gonna catch on and start working.

You know what the trick is to figuring out what Trump will do next?

You just listen to what he says and then believe he’ll do what he says he’ll do.

He’ll do this thing. Pretending he won’t is naive.

I’ve been hoping Biden would do this since the SCOTUS decided he can’t commit crimes as POTUS. Just have a list of every Republican and SCOTUS justice who has been credibly accused of crimes. Then just send those to the FBI to have investigations, charges and arrests fast-tracked.

Afterall, those are the positions where criminals can do the most harm and investigation should be taken serious and done quickly.

Yeah. That’s the real answer to this: exploiting this fuck-awful SCOTUS decision plunges the US into an authoritarian state.

The choice is: do you let Trump and Republicans do it if they win and turn American into a christo-fascist state? Or do it yourself to prevent that and turn into a “better?” abusive state? There’s really no winning here but we have to do something or we’re screwed.

If the choice is between a benevolent dictator and a normal dictator, I choose the former all day long.

The only reason to choose the latter is if you actually want a dictator because you believe you won’t be affected or because you hope that it will rally a resistance.

          Either way we are fucked.

If we assume that, in theory…as an example, Biden were to abuse the ruling and if we also assume he means well; he could theoretically do the following:

          • Simply round up Trump, all his major supporters, major far-right republicans and anyone else who has been making large moves that support the treasonous and seditious acts
          • Declare all of them terrorists, seditionists and traitors to the country
          • Recommend that the DoJ immediately arrest them, find them guilty, and sentence them to exactly 4 years of prison for each individual seditious anything they were doing, or perceived to be doing.
            • Most of the powerful ones would be serving multi-decade sentences probably.
          • Get re-elected, push through bills to patch up any and all loopholes they used to undermine the system of government.
          • Step down after the term and retire from politics after having put down their rebellion.
