Just back from dinner with the guy who organises the local Meetup dining group.
I’d dropped into the conversation when he invited me to a cafe that I wasn’t looking for a relationship right now, just to lay it on the table, then after some messaging that was pushing the boundaries and some blatantly flirtatious behaviour in front of others I had to have a stern talk of the You’re Making Me Uncomfortable Back Off variety.
So he walked me home, came in briefly to meet the cats and then I drove him home making it plain that I was just going to drop him home and run.
So what does he do? Ask me to stay the night!
Firstly NO, secondly I’ve never left the cats alone overnight and I’m not going to start now, thirdly I Told You I’m Not Interested Several Times Jesus Christ. 🤦🏻‍♀️ I think he’s more of a clueless scungie type - I know the breed from Uni God knows - but seriously, which part of I Am Not Interested does this guy not understand?

Long day… cranky… not a drop of moisture all day, but I just managed to miss the rain and got to come home to silky kitty and a bit of silliness (=much-needed energy expenditure) with the feather toy. Thank god I have food in the fridge… rest my tired soul with the sound of rain and a nourishing meal. I’m spent.

Fed the kitty this morning and we went back to bed, cuddling sweetly… she stretched her arm, dropped it and punctured a single secretly sharp claw into my eyelid like a fishhook.

After a delay of refusing to get up it was washed with antibacterial hand soap and dabbed with Betadine so fingers crossed. I have a spare box of antibiotics ready to go.

But yeah, that was literally half a centimetre from my actual eye.

That makes me feel sick because I can’t have anything go near my eye ( like I can’t wear contacts because I freak out about it )

My painful cat encounter story is, I was trying to save someone’s cat in a tree so I climbed way up and grabbed it.

It got scared and wriggled and thrashed around so much that it fell…almost. It managed to hook a single claw into my forearm and was just hanging there…stretching my skin.

I could only freak out and scream and shake it off. Of course it landed on its feet and just sauntered away.

Yup, they’ll do that. Cerys sliced my left nipple in half once.

Keep an eye on that shit. Uh. Pun unintended

I clip her claws but she always secretly sharpens just a single one so I don’t notice. It’s her stiletto.

Wondering about those colourful nail caps but they seem like they’d cause distress

Edit: And yes, I’m watching it because litterbox paws and will start the box of antibiotics that’s on hand if anything changes. It would be a nasty spot for an infection

Just had a company meeting about raises. I don’t quality because I just started, but they gave everyone:

    2%

You should have seen everyone’s face. The mood in the meeting plummeted instantly.

I’m expecting some resignations in the next few weeks.

Tonight it’s singing practice. I cancelled my plans so I could have the evening to myself to get my voice back to a usable state.

I miss performing so much. I just love the vulnerability that you feel when you’re giving a part of yourself to strangers for a short while. Putting yourself out there.

Music had been such an important part of my life. Every step of the way music has kept me going when I felt I didn’t want to. I could always rely on making music for catharsis.

And I think that’s what makes it such an important part of my life. I feel like everything is bottled up unless I’m playing regularly.

    /end over sharing rant

Speaking to my therapist last night. We were talking about my anxious mind craving distractions and the amount of screen time I’m racking up on my phone. He was talking about just sitting, no noise or anything and just taking in whats going on around us. I’ve never been so proud of myself cause I stopped short of shouting “RAWDOGING! Gen Z call it rawdogging when you just sit on a flight and do nothing!”

    Fuck i’m weird ey.

They call it rawdogging? (I ask, as a Gen Z person)

Also hard relate. I’ve noticed I’ve been watching YouTube and scrolling through Reddit to try to numb anxious feelings.

Reddit only seems to exacerbate my anxieties. Too much bad news coming from the world, condensed into a toxic cesspool of misogyny, racism, and arguing in bad faith.

I prefer YouTube, but avoid the comments.

And yeah apparently some people use “rawdogging” to describe going without their phone/music/whatever when travelling or doing something - which is just… No.

Rawdogging is a gross term to use colloquially in those situations. But language is language and youth will create slang as they always have done since language became something utilised by humans for communication.

This is something I’ve been working on for about 18 months now, and it definitely helps.

When I get home from work my phone goes in a different room and I don’t touch it at all. No laptop or iPad either. I usually read once our 5 year old is in bed and the dishes and chores are done and I get the chance to sit down.

I flew to North Qld and back a few weeks ago, no devices or screens.

My ‘online’ time is during breaks/lunch at work and that’s it. I deleted Instagram a couple of years ago and haven’t had Facebook since 2008.

I drive to work and back with NOTHING playing, no podcasts or music or anything, 3-4 hours of driving per day.

Being ‘in the moment rather’ than being attached to a screen or ‘content’ has really helped. Although I’ve found it DOES make me irrationally angry when I walk around (or even am at other family member’s houses) and everyone is glued to their screens. Not to mention the at least 1 person a month I see watching YouTube while driving on the freeway…

I was flash flooded down here on the bellarine. Holy fuck I’ve never seen rain like that. Every gutter was overflowing. Here was the start:

Been spending the last 2 hrs having an intimate conversation with a bucket. I have not seen this level of water down here before.

It was pissing down hard in Heidelberg but only for 20 minutes or so. It looked like the Bellarine and Mornington got all the extreme stuff.

Hope you don’t have much damage.

Well that’s a first. Found a stick insect on my subwoofer. I don’t think I’ve actually seen one before in the wild:

It has been put back outside on a tree. But glad to see there’s another real junglist saying wicked.

This most definitely calls for a rave choon:

Considering it was on the subby… Suicide bassline!
