Young Marx and old Marx look like completely different people. Even young Lenin, who looks quite different from what he ended up looking like, is recognizable as Lenin if you squint hard enough.
Old Marx had a skin disease, frequently infected eyes, an enlarged liver, and was often drunk on Bordeaux wine. He didn’t lead a healthy lifestyle.
He was also stressed out trying to take care of his wife and kids with his meager income as a writer/journalist, on top of trying to manage the workingmen’s association. Also he had police spies from Prussia and Belgium watching over him. Like all of that will age a person.

I think Lenin took a lot better care of himself.
That is all true. I think the massive beard also plays a factor.
