I’m fully on board with the idea that patriarchy serves the current power structure, but I struggle to put it easily into words.

I don’t remember the exact quote, I think it was something about r*pe culture from the late 2010s, but “Capitalism enlists men upon the promise that financial capital is convertible to sexual capital”. To keep paraphrasing, the idea that men earning more money will get them laid is essential to maintaining their loyalty to the capitalist mode. Sex is something both tangible and construed as scarce but possible to acquire, like a capitalist commodity. Without the promise of access to sex, capitalism would not be able to bolster itself with the approval of men at large, as it wouldn’t have anything special to offer to men.
The logic of capitalism mirrors the logic of the harem: that the few have access to most of the resources, while the majority have only a pittance; moreover, that an individual’s dedication to the system can make them go from being in the deprived many to being in the bounteous few.
Every time I think capitalism has run out of ways to be disgusting, it innovates and finds a new way to gross me out.
This is not a new innovation.
On the positive side, it answers the question “why are men so often like that” with a response that has an opening for change.
