I’m really really hoping people don’t fall for newsom’s bullshit. I feel like 2 weeks ago we were talking about how he sane washes alt right pundits by having them on his podcast and now I swear people forgot about that and are talking about how he should be the next president.

We’re in such a bad spot right now.

I won’t vote for Newsom in the primaries. I will dutifully vote for him in the general if/when he wins the primary.

If we want real progress, we need to defeat the GOP and then completely dismantle and reform/replace the DNC. It’s a tall order. So we do what we can with what we’ve got in this moment.

President Newsom is suboptimal, but, like, look around. We need to stop the bleeding and set the bones before we worry about building strength and health.

So I dunno. Will any real solid progressives be running against him in the primary? Bernie is, sadly, aged out now. And the establishment Dems will try to ratfuck any other progressive that runs. So that sucks.

But they are correct in that any Dem is better than the Trump regime. A houseplant would be better.

I am at least grateful for Newsom playing deftly against Trump. I wish more mainstream Democrats would step up. The folks in Texas are an inspiration.

I’m glad to see someone who gets it. There are certain things on the path that will be tough to swallow. My fear is that not enough will learn this and we’ll just keep digging the hole. Holes at least have one silver lining, in that you eventually come out the other end. The question is how long that will take and how banged up we’ll get on the way there.

        Why is this ordering necessary?

This is so ridiculous. I won’t vote for Newsom under any circumstances. I’m so done with the blue no matter who mentality, a mentality which only applies when the candidate is basically a republican. When a progressive/moderate socialist wins the primary, the whole democrat party changes its tune to “well maybe a third party candidate is OK after all”.

The ordering is necessary because we’ve had 9 months for some real progressive opposition to coalesce but this is the best we have to use against the orange shit stain. If you’re sick of this then put your money where your mouth is and go campaign for a real progressive or do it yourself and run in some elections. Just saying you’re above voting for blue is the same callous bullshit that got us here in the first place.

Vote blue no matter who is absolutely the dominant strain of thought in the liberal left. If anything is to blame for “getting us here in the first place”, it’s decades of callously putting down people calling for something better.

Doing nothing is also screwing us over. Go do something about it if you’ve had your fill with complaining. Canvas for a progressive, run for office yourself, vote blue, or watch the country crumble into fascism. It’s your choice.

Sure, I’ll do all this, and I’ll continue to push back against reactionaries like Newsom. I never said people shouldn’t do anything, I never said I’d do nothing, this is just dodging the question at hand.

I won’t vote for him, period. Bold of you to think Dems will have a real primary too. It’ll be decided before 85% of the population has even had a primary. For being called Democrats, they’re pretty terrible at democracy.

Democrats suck. But Fascists are far, far worse.

We have a first-past-the-post system. It sucks, but it’s what we’ve got right now.

Which means, every major election, there are usually two viable candidates. Occasionally three, but most often two. That’s it.

And yes, the Democratic primary will most likely be set up in such a way so as to exclude progressives. They did Bernie dirty, we know.

Yes, it’s horrible, but a third party vote, or a protest non-vote, is a vote for MAGA Fascism nowadays. Let’s be clear-eyed about this.

When MAGA succeeds in destroying democracy and implementing a theocratic dictatorship, in addition to the red hat hillbilly cousin-fuckers, I will remember and blame people like you.

Our first order of business is keeping Fascism out within the system we have. If we fail at that task, then we will no longer have any rule of law, period. Our only recourse then will be violence - shooting and stabbing Fascists.

Are you ready for all that? I’m not.

So fucking hold your nose and vote for the corporate mainstream Dem in the general. Get him elected, and then fight him tooth and nail to pull him hard to the left, as hard as you can, and work hard to get either real progressives into the Democratic Party and primary out the corporate neolibs, or build a real, viable third-party option that can win elections at the local, county, and state level and threaten them that way.

It can be done, but it takes a lot of time and energy.

But if Fascists succeed in dismantling democracy, we won’t have a standing chance to ever do that, now will we?

Politics isn’t about electing people you love. Politics is about getting certain things done. That’s it. Newsom can be a tool towards that end, towards keeping Thiel, Yarvin, Vance, and co. at bay. One step at a time.

We’re backed onto our one-yard line, and the clock is running out. We don’t have a lot of options, dipshit. We’re facing the End here. Be practical. At least Newsom is a high-profile individual, with a lot of institutional pull, who’s fighting back. We need that, desperately.

I’m more anti-authoritarian than I am left or right. Recently the Democrats have been more authoritarian than the"fascists" imo but Trump’s second term is pretty heavy handed. At this point I can’t perceive a lesser evil to vote for. Newsom is a solid piece of shit though. That’s easy. If it comes to a general election, I’ll test out the shit then.

I’d like to see examples. For instance, women’s bodily autonomy. Dems say yes, Repubs say no. What’s more authoritarian than saying what you can do with your own body?

I’m not saying the Dems aren’t authoritarian- that’s a real problem in America. But more authoritarian than the Repubs? Really?

If he is against homeless people and trans people he is as bad as GOP. They arent disposable people and its a huge red flag when a candidate treats them like they are.

They are neighbors and loved ones and are not up for throwing away. Fuck newsome into the same pit as trump

That meaningful difference is for raising voter base and loyalty to get up the ranks. Once you’re up, lobbying and foreign influence is way more sweeter deal than working on the “interests of the voters”. They’ll be saying what AIPAC writes on the prompter, having Saudis for breakfast and have war crimes on “to-do” list.

Didn’t you guys fucking learn anything from the last election?
