a lot of these mass shooters are self-hating social darwinists. their ideology would never drive them to kill a CEO or sitting politician

Bifo wrote about this in his book “Heroes”. IIRC, he suggested that these people and their actions are the products of a society where ‘survival of the fittest’ truisms are the norm; where violence and force are normalized and celebrated; and where people are totally lienated and deprived connection, identity, fulfillment, etc.

These conditions inform a rotten worldview of someone who hates and is hated by society, and these acts can be seen as a reactionary kind of lashing out (i.e., retaliation, taking power back) or a revolutionary ‘culling of the weak’ (i.e., killing more undesirables, gaining status in their fascist cults)

I am once again asking the inhuman freaks who do this shit to direct it towards the seemingly unending list of people who deserve it instead of children

      “He’s been on our radar”

This could actually be a context where the 12 might be somewhat well-equipped. If we’re not doing anything because “muh freedumz”, then just target these people with warning signs to prevent crime. Even if you’re just talking them out of it. There, no gun laws needed.

I never want to hear shit about “muh birthrates” when this happens all the time and the powers that be shrug their shoulders and say “tee hee, ohhhhhh well!”

You wanna know a crazy statistic? Only 0.2% of gun deaths occur on school grounds in the US. That’s not meant to minimize this problem. Just to show how bad everything else is too. 58% are suicides, 38% are homicides, 3% other (police shootings and accidents). https://www.pewresearch.org/short-reads/2025/03/05/what-the-data-says-about-gun-deaths-in-the-us/

I often wonder why Switzerland doesn’t have this issue compared to the US. The US has so much untreated mental illness and trauma, lack of social cohesion, economic disparity, racial disparity.

Switzerland has across the board higher safety, training, safe-storage requirements. Guns and ammo must be kept in separate locked containers. The Swiss don’t keep guns for self defense. Guns are only for military duties and sporting purposes. The Swiss don’t keep that thang on em. A dispute isn’t going to escalate into a shooting because a Swiss is packing.

Roughly 42% to 52% of U.S. households own at least one gun. In Switzerland, historical data from 2004-2005 indicated that approximately 28.6% of households owned firearms. That number might be higher with a growing interest in shooting sports particularly among women. There’s also growing concern since Covid and the war in Ukraine. https://www.swissinfo.ch/eng/business/how-switzerland-combines-a-passion-for-guns-with-safety/49115108

IMO the difference between USA and Switzerland here is the poisonous idea of American Individualism.

There is a mentality in the US that you are the only one truly looking out for yourself and your immediate family, so if you’re going somewhere you perceive as dangerous, or even simply “needing order” - which is everywhere outside your “castle” according to Fox News - you might be inclined to bring your weapon and make sure everyone knows you are willing to assert your safety and independence above all else. Endemic toxic masculinity ensures that any slight against you, if not remedied and apologized for immediately, results in peacocking and chest-thumping that escalates the situation and can easily become deadly.

I haven’t spent very much time in Switzerland specifically, but my overall experience as a USAian in Western Europe is that there is a much more pervasive understanding of societal good and collectivism (small C, not calling on any particular philosophy/ideology) that is almost entirely absent here in the states.

Yeah I agree. The more info that comes out about this, it looks like there’s a crazy nihilism/trolling thing going on. They were a part of those nihilist internet communities where they groom and egg each other on.

There’s known indicators of people who commit mass shootings. People don’t get up and randomly decide to shoot countless people, they plan it and show indicators.

Why aren’t we training relevant agencies on this? Doing PSAs? It’s not hard!

it appears the shooter is trans

edit: posted a manifesto youtube video, has white letters written on their guns/ammo, similar to Trentan (NZ mosque shooter), names of other mass shooters written, but there is also “Israel must fall” written. Fuck, the right/Zionist is gonna have a field day with this one.

    • The reactionaries are spouting it. True or not the damage is being done and they’ll continue pushing that angle as school shootings spark cries for gun control and this gives them an excellent chance to do an uno reverse and cry for cracking down on trans people and decrying how it’s propaganda that turns perfectly straight kids gay and trans and satanic (because Catholics targeted), shifting the blame from guns, from an alienated, hyper-individualistic, barbaric, consumption culture with easy access to weapons to “woke trans”.

Looks like they were also Russian, maybe immigrant given their manifesto was posted in Russian so they can talk up anti-immigrant talking points and the necessity of ICE, add on the anti-zionist points and this is a a triple whammy for them in shifting blame and casting immigrants, trans people, and anti-zionists as violent criminal terrorists. Add on the bonus that it was a Catholic school targeted and they’ll keep harping on this because Christians LOVE feeling persecuted from a distance and pushing the idea of how their victims are so mean and hurtful to them.

The only thing I have seen is that the shooter changed their name from Robert to Robin and they have long hair, but nothing about them being trans is being reported yet.

Robert is a masculine name generally speaking and one given to AMAB types generally speaking. Yet the news refers to the shooter as she that’s something in support of this idea unfortunately along with the fact pronouns are being avoided in some of the news reporting and the name change.

            I’ve since found this:

The shooter’s mother also applied to change her child’s name from Robert to Robin in Dakota County in 2019, according to court documents obtained by FOX 9. According to the name change filing, Westman identified “as a female and wants her name to reflect that identification.”

Not the source of that text but another source (ABC): https://archive.is/YXmhD

Someone better at sifting through court records can maybe find this though it looks like unless it was digitized by a third party you likely need to go to the records place in person or at the very least submit an online form and pay a fee to get this kind of info.

This is pretty bad. This trans person had some parental support to change their name from their mother as a minor and went on to kill people, we can’t say what else happened in their life or how much support they really had but the reactionaries will harp on that fact until time ends as proof that embracing trans kids identities leads to violence when of course evidence shows not supporting trans kids leads to suicides (what reactionaries would prefer of course). This, the other shooting at a religious school in Kentucky by a trans-man a few years back, they’ll say its a part of “discrimination” and violence against Christians and drive them into an even further frothing frenzy to criminalize trans people, classify being trans as a mental illness and harp on denying mentally ill people guns as the solution. And that’s part of the whole “woke pink-hairs are mentally ill” push to put such people in camps (to be slaves doing farm-work deported migrants used to do and/or illusory re-shoring) and not just deny them guns for self-defense. UGH.

I hate everything about this story, but yeah looks like things are looking that way as more evidence is coming to light. Honestly the whole thing is ridiculous though to focus on the shooter’s identity, cis white men can commit mass shootings and it is always “lone-wolf mental illness” excuse for them, but any minority does the same and it becomes a backlash wave of ire towards those communities. I am especially sensitive to this one, because I’m trans and in Minneapolis and not looking forward to the extra hate and harassment inevitably coming towards us in the coming days and weeks.
