Ritchie Torres is a huge AIPAC recipient. He is a US congressman in the House of Representative, representing the South Bronx district of NY.

This is a hostile interview. From 40 minutes to the end of the video, Adam Friedland tells Ritchie Torres that supporting Israel is antisemitic. He tells Ritchie Torres that by Democrats promoting Israel’s Genocide of Gaza and claiming that all Jewish people want to do Genocide, that Zionists are creating hatred of Jewish people.

This interview gives one the impression that this is Ritchie Torres’s first time being asked questions.

The man is so awkward and monotone, so eager to say his weird little one-liners that don’t land at all, so committed to his talking points that he literally is not responding to what Adam is saying. He can’t even do small talk, he’s giving one word answers to like “what’s up” type questions

Torres seems like an android on low batteries who’s just spitting out AI chatbot lines, but does Friedland always sound that whiny? He all but whimpers all of the responses to Torres’s flowchart answers while rarely actually providing solid retorts. It’s like he expects Torresbot to come over to his side despite the AIPAC money just because of his own poorly-articulated experiences. This is the first time I’ve watched him, and he just came off as pretty poorly-prepared for the interview.

The former host of Cumtown is the first media figure to confront or try to push this guy with any kind of humanity

    • Honestly, I feel like recent event have validated the whole “Dirtbag Left” thing. The Cum boys and Chapo have all been firm and consistent on their condemnation of the genocide in Gaza, meanwhile Breadtube grifters are all pull “well askcully it’s very nuanced!” BS.

I think that’s just Contrapoints. I’m pretty sure HBomberguy has spoken out against the genocide. And she was never “breadtube,” but Lindsay Ellis has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for Palestinian children in the past few days with her Ms Rachel video (which I haven’t seen yet).

IDK about the other breadtubers (I don’t even remember who they are)

I watched like 40s that was posted to reddit-logo and it just made me depressed that of all the people to give this Zionist a hostile interview it had to be Adam fucking Friedland, someone who can barely stand up to his own friend and is not at all practiced in the act of being hostile

Yeah I don’t know too much about Adam Friedland but I commend his genuine effort to expose the vileness of Richie Torres and the position he represents. But, this interview was an expose on the power of rhetoric. It’s not to say that Adam’s humanity/emotions were wasted, I think they did wonders for those viewing with empathy. But, if we are to engage the masses, we must also master rhetoric while being on the factual side of history.

i jumped to the 40 minute mark and i only could stand to watch a little bit because torres just seems completely bloodless. i have never heard him speak before and it was really bizarre just how apathetic his whole affect is. it is honestly a lot more frustrating than if he actually seemed like he really gave a shit

Really disturbing how Torres tried, in bad faith, to disqualify everything Adam was saying as he was trying to have a real conversation. I think Adam being as exasperated as he was felt understandable, I can’t imagine talking about something that sensitive and having the congressman tell you “I feel like you’re lecturing me”.

Honestly Fetterman and his entitled petulance coupled with his homicidal sociopathy is just the perfect encapsulation of the Democratic party right now.

Ritchie also tried to have Hasan banned from Twitch for antisemitism, last year. In collaboration with Destiny’s community, Ritchie Torres spread a false claim that Hasan support sexual assault of Israeli women.

Isn’t it kind of toxic to interpret being emotional as a weakness? Watching the video, Ritchie Torres is a soulless cold-blooded ghoul, feeding out talking points like a robot. By comparison, Adam choking up a bit shows he actually cares about what he is saying.

Adam tells Ritchie Torres that he was indoctrinated as a child to support Israel and even forced to go on the birthright trip to Israel. He says that he still chose to be against Israel because he saw the discrimination against Palestinians.

Adam tells Ritchie Torres that members his own family will resent him for speaking out against Israel in this interview. He’s sacrificing relationships with his own family to speak out against Zionism.

Adam tells Ritchie Torres that he’s considered abandoning his religion because he’s afraid he will be associated with Zionism.

This is not to say that Adam is the victim here. The victim of Zionism is the Palestinians. However, I think it’s pretty reasonable to become a bit emotional when you know that your own family will try to hurt you for speaking out against injustice.

I didn’t say being emotional is weak. In fact, I think his willing to be emotionally vulnerable is the strongest part of the interview. The problem is he didn’t communicate any of those ideas you mentioned in a way that someone who didn’t already agree could understand.

As someone who generally agrees with Adam I can easily fill in the gaps and understand what he means but if you put yourself in the shoes of someone who feels differently it really comes off as “why won’t you change your mind about what’s right? Can’t you see I’m distressed about your position?”

I could really never get a read on cumtown and subsequently this pod.

I get that Nick’s style was irony poisoned bits, but It would sometimes leave a bad taste in my mouth.

Maybe I’m entirely missing the joke, idk, its always confused me.

In the defense of Adam tho, I’ve never listened to the new format and maybe he is trying to be more serious. Idk
