Decision announced at Cop30 climate conference signposts risks for Australia’s reliance on fossil fuel exports, analysts say

Good news and a great example that climate action in one country can make it easier for other countries to follow.
Australia should just slowly constrict their production and exports monotonically. If they do it carefully, they can probably both decrease international reliance on coal, as well as make a pretty penny in the process.
That’s not our governments way. What will happen is we will talk nonstop about how this is going to happen, do nothing for decades, and act shocked when it happens while funneling money to the industry to support it.
The fossil fuel industry doesn’t pay enough in taxes for it to be worth it tbh, it’s just making a handful of very rich people even more so…
“Sounds alarm” is the media’s favorite phrase this month
I wouldn’t lose too much sleep. We still have a lot of Pacific Rim nations who are hungry for the spicy rocks. The trimming of the sails is a good sign, globally. And even individually, these countries have curbed their appetite. But there’s still a robust global market for coal exports for a generation or more, unless coal planets are decommissioned faster.
