      I don’t know but it’s disheartening to me too. Like the time they went crazy when the Kernel added a code of conduct for maintainers and that shithead abusive Linus finally had to take a break because of his repeated abuse of other contributors. The code of conduct in question is basically “be a decent human being” but apparently that was too much to ask for and many contributors actually threatened to remove their code.

        Yeah I remember that too. The r/linux threads at the time were filled with reactionary shitheads who probably have never contributed a single line of code, whining about how the SJWs are ruining Linux.

          There were even bizarre conspiracy theories that his daughter had brainwashed him, or that businesses interests had asked him to go woke. Clawing for some explanation, anything, so they could package this as part of The Great Culture War.

      Linux is a great free open source operating system… an alternative to Windows and MacOS. If you are interested then come join us in libre and maybe soon you will be using Linux yourself :) The web runs on Linux and Android is based on Linux… this should give you an idea how powerful it’s.

      He designed some of the software at the heart of open source software. Most notably GCC, which is a compiler for code. A compiler takes code from human readable form into a form usable by the computer. This is required by languages like C++, but not languages like python or JavaScript. He was also largely responsible for Emacs, which is the only piece of software a computer needs in addition to a browser. Although some computers, like mine, require proprietary software like Minecraft as well.
