Professional in the sense it’s a way to refer to a person who’s name you don’t know. In my job I have to interact with a lot of people where I don’t know there name and “sir” or “ma’am” is kind of useful as a way to reference them, but I’m not aware of an NB equivalent.

you don’t have to say sir or ma’am at all. i never use sir or ma’am, please and thank you are good enough.
