So yeah, my girlfriend had been using and liking Orchyd for her period tracking, but now they’re deleting the app for some reason. She’s tried a few open source alternatives like “drip.” but not convinced because it doesn’t give predictions of ovulation, PMS, etc. After searching for a while with her, some of the most popular good-looking options are paywalled, and we’ve so far settled on MeetYou, an app I found after looking for “Chinese period app”, which seems decent but has ads and it’s not open source.

What do you people (or your partners) recommend?

Not my intention to be unhelpful. But please be very careful- basically any and all ‘health and wellness’ apps, mercilessly harvest and sell your personal medical data. I found this period tracking spreadsheet template in 30 seconds- something like that might be free and helpful while protecting your medical history. Best of luck!

Not unhelpful at all, and you are totally right. I personally would only go for offline tracking, but I understand that for my gf, living in a country where private medical insurance is uncommon, she’s not so concerned about the privacy of her menstrual cycle. Her decision at the end of the day. Thanks a lot for your input!

i’m interested to learn of some better ones too. been using drip but also don’t like it for similar reasons. at least it doesn’t steal my data like my old one though, i’m very wary of anything not open source and offline at this point.

  • My partner uses Clue. It appears to care about data privacy in some resoects…

However, it still fingerprints you for ad tracking svcs (I checked their privacy policy) even if it doesn’t necessarily give up sensitive information to marketing or state agencies. For Americans, it’s gonna be much better than anything hosted domestically I guess.

It tracks ovulation date relatively well from what she can tell w/ symptoms, but has some paywalled features and isnt open source. You might find that Drip is the absolute best for privacy and auditability, even if it doesnt have certain features (though perhaps they’re not impossible to implement some day if you asked…?)
