He is not acting for Putin, at least not directly. Trump of course, he is the US president, leader of the free world.

There are thousands more in European military, politics and other institutions that are loyal to the US more than the EU. They grew up and came into whatever position they now hold in a system where Europe was de facto subordinate the USA for decades.

Needless to say for a truly independent Europe they are going to be a problem.

There is alot to be discovered and said about this comment.

I’ll start by commenting it’s part of a mindset, belonging to people who have been culturally ingrained by a 80 years plus US military presence. In a similar fashion as Central Europe needed to come free from USSR, the Western part is now going through a parallel process with the USA. It could be part of a growing " independence" movement, with a maybe a new (European) core identity at heart.

the Western part is now going through a parallel process with the USA.

Is it? The US has embraced Flooding the Zone. Trump is in power because the media controls the majority. The left knows what is wrong but they can do nothing, despite an abundance of scandals and irregularities that should have led to an impeachment a long time ago.

Europe’s political positions are filled with US friendly politicians. The majority of the people is controlled by the same media companies. Europe can follow the US independend of the opinion of the critical population.

Best of all, Europeans have fully embraced the war with Russia. This made Europe entirely dependend on the US. So no matter how political parties change, the US can dictate politics.

All that while Europe hasn’t built own chip factories or IT infrastructure, let alone world influencing software assets.

People have various ideas about which core values are important for the success of a movement and they will waste everything in fights for the necessary purity, especially if there is influence from the outside.

My hunch is that Europe’s next steps have been accounted for. The US had helped to liberate eastern Europe. There is no external power that would help western Europe.

Of course that shouldn’t lead to resignation. It just needs the awareness that the situation is very complicated.
