I’m glad I’m not the only one, like the guy is a piece of shit but when it’s like “>best friend died” it’s just like, fuck. maybe his friend was keeping him relatively sane since that’s when he started posting his shitty politics? idk. Doesn’t matter but it’s still kinda deeper-sadness to think about

There are people in Palestine who have endured everyone they know being murdered by fascists with the whole world doing nothing, and somehow they don’t all become reactionary racist shitheads. There’s no excuse for this

They’re not the target of cordinated mass media campaigns designed to weaponize them into reactionary racist shitheads, they’re just the victims of those people because capital sees more utility in simply killing them than in weaponizing them. If we’re being materialist about this, there’s a reason why America produces so many of these people while Palestine does not. This guy chose to be a nazi, yes, but he did not do so under circumstances of his choosing. That shit is in the air here and that’s very much by design.

If we’re being truly materialist about this, getting rid of all moralism, violent drunk fascists still should be shot or tackled when they make attacks with syringes at Ilhan Omar. He got the spray off and could have killed her if he wasn’t a fuck up and had something truly toxic. It’s an objective, material failure to allow this person to get away with what he did just from a cold strategic outlook.

Absolutely: they need to be removed before they can cause harm, the pipeline that creates more of them needs to be collapsed at it’s entrance, and the conditions that allowed the pipeline to be built in the first place need to be rectified.

In other words, this was an assassination attempt by a fascist against a political figure. His assassination attempt failed because he is a drunk fuckup, but plenty of assassination attempts against Castro were also failed attempts by equally incompetent gusano fuckups. However, those attempts were taken very seriously by Cuban counterintelligence no matter how unlikely the attempts would actually succeed. I do not see the same sense of urgency and seriousness here.

If necessary. If they can be saved, why not? It’s sad to see someone who seems like they can be saved pushed to capitalist induced psychosis and to the point of harming others. Assume such a person isn’t killed in whatever revolutionary movement that happens, and they are now functionally a political prisoner. You just think we should execute them? How fucking grim. They can be given the reeducation and stability they need to recover, and then live pro social and reformed lives. Why wouldn’t you want that for someone? Why wouldn’t it make you sad that they are denied it under the status quo?

We’re discussing this in the context that he just made an attack with some unknown substance against the only leftwing politician with any principles at all in the USA. This isn’t some hapless political prisoner from your hypothetical dream world. This is reality where he’s an unhinged racist and fascist who uses violence against women, POC and the left. Self-defense. Her guards should have shot him 3 times in the face when he drew the syringe and lunged towards her.

Okay. One can put down a rabid animal and still pity it for the tragedy it is. Understanding what drove it to harmful behavior and trying to cure and prevent rabies doesn’t mean we don’t put down rabid animals, neither does it make someone counter revolutionary or weak to pity reactionaries driven to psychosis by the material conditions around them. They’re still culpable, and they’re still legitimate targets of self-defensive violence. But they’re also human, and I’d wish for a world where they didn’t have to suffer that way. Shame on me I guess.

No. It would be awful to see all the same. In your hypothetical, a wretched creature was hurt and twisted into a thrashing animal, and lashes out hurting another person. One can rightfully see the necessity for self-defensive violence without being contradictory in wishing it wasn’t necessary and pitying the creature lashing out in pain. I see the likes of Steven Miller, Noem, Bovino, Bannon, and others as far more culpable for creating the stream of propaganda driving already suffering people to violent psychosis. They can hang, whereas the propagandized can be reeducated.

There are tens of thousands of people who have been negatively affected by this person, starting with his two daughters, his two ex-wives, and the thousands of people he endangered while driving drunk, who I feel sorry more for, and after expending my spoons to feel sorry for tens of thousands of people, I do not have any left over to feel sorry for him.

Nah. One can still recognize the humanity of people who get the wall. But I framed hypothetical in the way that I did for a reason—dealing with a political prisoner. Does that sound like free speech to you, ya goober? Having sympathy for our enemies and recognizing them as human is in fact part of what differentiates us from fascists after all.

This dipshit should be dealt with exactly as harshly as necessary. In the meantime, its perfectly coherent to pity the wretch and the material conditions that made him this way.

why are we using a secure prison hypothetical dreamworld instead of reality of racist fascist drunk who sprayed unknown substances on Ilhan Omar. Guards should have killed or captured him on sight when he drew a syringe and lunged towards her, they failed big time here and were far too slow and let a weirdo walk right up to her. He could have killed her if he wasn’t a drunk fuck up.
