There’s four factions I can identify: the doomsday cult, who believe this is for the war of Armageddon; the nihilists, who don’t really care about anything as long as their enemies suffer; the dying elders, who don’t care what happens after they die; and the careerists, who are thinking longer term about their political future.
So, three factions in favor of political suicide, one faction against it. Seems bad.

I mean liberal politicians wanting political suicide is a good thing, it’s the military murder-suicide pact they’ve landed on that’s worrying.
