McDonalds being the biggest fastfood company on earth has to be the most obvious signifier ever that capitalism is a lie. The burgers are objectively bad. The patties are as thin as cardboard. The ingredients are cheap and nasty. They don’t even taste good and I can bet you will fell sick after eating one. I could make a better burger in my sleep.
Yet people will be like “fuck yeah America boorgoor! You won’t get this luxury in communism!”
How could it be any more obvious that that slop is only popular because of advertising and addictive chemicals? How could it be more obvious that this shit isn’t successful because it’s good, but because it fucked you? Why at people so proud to be duped?!
yeah, but where else can you get a happy meal with a toy that might have a tie in to something you saw on a screen?
the food gave me heart disease, diabetes & diarrhea, but i can clutch the plastic robot milkshake as i lay dying in agony.
that’s the magic of america.
I don’t know lately, but years ago McDonald’s would somewhat adapt to better ingredients and menu options depending on where they are in the world. US gets some of the worst sickening slop for sure, and even in the “better” regions it’s still garbage and expensive in comparison to local convenient food.
I think the reason has to do with the general culture of eating out and the deterioration of home cooking and bringing it with you.
Many small towns have like one or two “decent restaurants” (aka serve prime rib at least one day a week), a single grocery store (that may be a walmart), 3-4 fast food chains and that’s it. As bad as McDonalds is I don’t think I would rank it in the bottom half of fast food slop available in this country. But even then that doesn’t mean shit to the american consumer because most people I know in my city have a disdain for McDonalds while Taco Bell’s grade D slop meat is fine.
Plus there’s things like upfront payments for rising grocery costs, double income requirements cutting into cooking time, piss-poor meat-centric eating habits, or the unending torment of driving carpool/carbrain culture in general, all potential reasons for keeping people in the drive through line before we even get to the chemical addictions.
