Libs aren’t against war, they only pretend to be mad when the Red Team does wars. When the Blue Team does wars, it’s totally fine, doncha know.

Yeah but you’d think there’d at least be one John Steward type who’d be all “wow! they’re shoveling the entirety of the U.S. treasury into a furnace… republicanl-y smuglord not how we’d have done it”

Also iv went to bed and people seem to have focused hard on “the Democrats” as what i meant by shitlibs when instead i meant “you’d think the insane cost of all of this would be such a fucking lay up to criticize even a liberal could do it” when obviously if a Democrat were to do it they’d only be doing it because Blue Man isn’t in charge and not out of ideological opposition to war with iran

It’s a good question, and I can’t speak on all liberals, but I do know some boomer libs (related to some of them) and have a good idea why they wouldn’t think it is a lay up. Even though they think of themselves as “the left,” are ostensibly sympathetic to homeless people since they make the great liberal sacrifice of donating to charities and NGOs, and are even sickened (sometimes literally) by the unaffordability of healthcare, they still have been trained by the liberal establishment not to even think in those terms. Like Bernie to them was a good guy, but “never stood a chance” because he was a pie in the sky radical.

If some establishment Democrat were to point out the spending on the war and loudly talk about how much it could alleviate homelessness or the lack of healthcare, they would nod and agree but it’s not something they’re going to have a lightbulb moment about themselves. They would say they’re all for spending that money on people’s well-being, not “Trump’s war,” and I think they would be genuine saying it. But they have it stuck in their heads that it “just doesn’t work like that.” Because they do trust the liberals running things, they’ve bought into the lies they’ve been told regarding the impossibility of all good things that are absolutely possible. Like homelessness is just a fact of life to them, has always been there and always will be, “throwing money at it won’t make it go away” in their propagandized minds. They watch CNN and MSNBC and listen to NPR, the Guardian is the radical left they’ll read when they want spicy takes. So they eat up all that liberal trash propaganda while thinking they’re well informed on the hard truths, certain that propaganda is all on Fox News and limited to what the Republicans tell their base. They will act shocked by Trump voters, saying “how can they vote against their own interests like that!?” while themselves voting for Democrats that want to raise the cost of the insulin they rely on to live. So when they’re told things like that “most homeless people want to be homeless and the rest are so lost and hooked on drugs that even if we gave them a home, they’d just end up back on the street,” by some liberal talking head on TV who pretends to fight for justice because he makes vague statements about wanting to free the US from Trump’s fascism, they believe that’s how it is.

I actually tried to talk to them about the amount of money Biden was sending to Ukraine and telling them how far that could go to cover things like healthcare. But they went on about the complexity of the economy and that the war is just a temporary thing (lol) whereas healthcare has to keep getting paid for in perpetuity. Or would point out that “Canada has universal healthcare but they’re not much better off than we are” and think that settled it.

I don’t know if that answers your question to some degree, but understanding that mindset and seeing it in action makes it perfectly clear to me why at least that type of mostly well meaning lib isn’t shouting about how all this money could be spent on things like homelessness and healthcare.
