How can people use #YouTube without @ublockorigin or paying for it?
I just tried to watch an assay via Tor Browser. 5 minutes 20 seconds into the video I had to view 2 pre video advertisements and 2 advertisements after 2 minutes 30 seconds and 2 advertisements after 5 minutes.
Now I do not want to watch YouTube anymore. I feel that I watched as many minutes/seconds advertisements as I watched wanted content.
what’s the issue with ublock on your end? it works perfect over here on desktop and android, blocks all ads seamlessly.
For me, it’s slow loading times for videos. Get a lot of “experiencing interruptions?” pipupe, too.
i mean yeah, it loads for a couple seconds now because of youtube throttling. still better than a 30 second ad though right?
Obviously
@umbrella @doleo ad blockers are working fine, the thing that shits me about youtube is that quite often they can’t manage a video stream over fhd without stalling every 30s.
Also, the new embedded player layout is baaad. The “gear” settings is top right but the menu pops up bottom center. Who came up with that, that’s a lot of mouse distance on a 4k screen.
have you tried updating your filters? google breaks it sometimes, and updating them fixes it most of the time.
if it doesn’t, then yeah there are great alternatives like freetube or invidious!
@umbrella I wouldn’t think it’s a filter issue? The video works fine other than regularly not having enough buffer to keep playing.
as i said, google breaks them sometimes, and this is exactly how it usually looks like. update them and try it out.
@umbrella Huh. Hadn’t ever looked that deep into UO yet, install it and it does its thing… Found the button to force updates, I’ll try that next time.
@umbrella I newer said I have a problem with uBlock origin.

On desktop Freetube
On Android Pipepipe
These work without an account. They skip the ads with Sponsorblock. Commenting, thumbs up will not be an option.
I use these with MullvadVPN.
+1 for freetube and pipepipe. They’re great. Also mpv + ytdlp in desktop.
On iOS, Firefox Focus for no ads!
Ublock on the web revanced on the phone
uBlock Origin along with SponsorBlock on all browsers, or a NewPipe fork with SponsorBlock buipt-in. That is what I do.
Alternatively, use Invidious, but YT is currently trying to actively block them. Mileage may vary.
on the web, invidious
redirect.invidious.io will give you some active instances
Because they don’t know they have the option to block ads without having to pay, which a lot of people in most parts of the world can’t afford. More awareness of available solutions will help.
I watch it with no real blocking and I don’t get all that much ads. Whats annoying is they have infomercial type ads that if you don’t hit skip will go on forever. I often put stuff on as background so im walking around and doing things and its like. ugh. gotta hit skip.
@txt_file@chaos.social some would say there are ads in your video. I would say there is a video in your ads.
And not just Youtube, not using ad blockers often immediately turn the browsing experience overall miserable.
Those that don’t use ad blockers, I wonder if they are an example of Plato’s Cave allegory.
Nexttube on my hacked Nvidia Shield Pro and Peertube on my phone
i forget about it until people on here complain about it :)
