We have to be honest: Many people shouldn’t own dogs. Dogs shouldn’t be in small apartments while their owner is away at work. Dogs are social animals, they need company. Dogs shouldn’t be in an crowded environment where they have to pee in doorways, on cars or benches. Dogs need an environment where they can run freely and not only on a leash. If you can’t provide your dog with that, you shouldn’t buy one.

And if you buy one, you need to train it to ensure that the dog is not a danger to other people and will not annoy them by barking at everything everytime.

    (the same applies to cats…)

Is spritzing it a few times really going to help? I can’t imagine there’s a practical way to clean dog urine off cement without a hose and maybe a broom. Maybe just dumping a water bottle on it, but depending on the drainage it might not even go anywhere. So you have the same stank, just delayed.

We have the same thing in our city (200€ fine), most streets in the central part are brick/stone so the piss runs through the gaps and isn’t so bad. You’re supposed to use a solution of soapy water, or bleach and water, but most it’s just ‘magical water’.

City cracked down after having to replace metal guard rails that were piss corroded.

It does help… especially in the summer when the baked piss smell is strong if isn’t used.

A mixture to deal with it makes a lot more sense! I run into piss (dog and otherwise) pretty frequently when I’m out and about, removing at least the pet portion of that would be a good start for dealing with the reek.

Bonus: it rarely rains in LA (piss is washed away less frequently), it’s hot most of the year, we have an enormous unhoused population, and limited public bathrooms. Save me 🥲

Imagine that having a 100%stone environment has downsides, wouldn’t be a problem if they had a little bit of grass or dirt.

You’d need to carry your dog’s body weight in water to be able to wash all the piss they do on a normal walk.

Is this rise in pet ownership a continent-wide thing? I’ve noticed that here too
