Windrose exists and is already a bunch of fun!
Was it added in a post-launch update?
-
Cash shop in a single player game.
-
Contains Denuvo and requires a Ubisoft account to use their shitty launcher.
-
Has adverts in-game.
-
Launched with $85 of DLC.
-
Immediately started laying off workers after launch.
Fuck Ubisoft, and if you bought this game, fuck you too.
Honestly the “laying people off after launch” speaks volumes of the teams that do the same; can you not work multiple projects and shift people to the other one until it’s complete?
The layoffs seem more like “line must go up’” than any kind of “we can no longer afford you now the job is done”.
I’m probably preaching to the choir.
Yeah, totally.
I really dislike the dishonesty. If you’re always going to lay-off/downsize/insert-capitalist-euphemism-here after each project is done then stop hiring people as staff and hire them as contractors instead. Make it clear from the start it’s not a permanent position.
But that’s more expensive, as people demand 50-100% more salary as a contractor; Line must go up faster
Yup, exactly 👍
The layoffs seem more like “line must go up’”
This is literally always the case
It’s self-cannibalizing also. Layoffs are now the only way for them to maximize profits enough for their shareholders to get their ROI, and in the future even that won’t be enough. They will be drained of every ounce of value that can be extracted of them and then discarded. Such is the fate of every company that gets in bed with wall street.
Running AC4 on my modified Xbox console. 0 issues, 0 bucks paid for the game, 0 fucks given.
Ubisoft ruined one too many games. My beloved Rocksmith now is a useless microtransaction shell of its former power. I won’t buy a single ubisoft game in the future. Time to lay rest to the cancer they brought into gaming.
I’m so glad I got at least some songs on Rocksmith before they were pulled from the Xbox store. The new version is absolute trash
I should figure out what to do with my modded PS3 before the shop shuts down. I think the modded software pulls from the official store servers for some things like games?
AFAIK any ps3 is able to be Software hardmodded (though some sort of a program, permanent effect). There are a few series that allow to pull games off online for Xbox (some degraded and won’t work anymore) and I bet something like this exists for ps3 too. Check consolemods.org. They have plenty of info there
Ooo thank you, I actually installed CFW on my PS3 already recently! I was lucky that my slim is a model that can be permanently CFW’d. I should do my 360 as well… only issue is, it doesn’t have HDMI so none of my screens work with it unless I get a capture card D:
Quick edit; oh, in my previous comment I was saying I should utilize the CFW to get some things that might not be available as easily when the store closes, which I believe in next year.

Which is so fucking braindead - they could have just as easily leveraged that now-experienced team to get a Assassin’s Creed - Rogue remake out in good time, especially as that has more of the same Black Flag ship mechanics, and most players missed out due to the transition from PS3 > PS4.

Remember when it came out in 2020 that Ubisoft had an internal sex ring in which the upper management were preying on the women in the development staff?
I haven’t played an Ubisoft game since, including some favorites.
Somehow I had memory holed this. Just generally hate Ubisoft. But jesus fucking christ I remember this coming out. Yea fuck Ubisoft.
Holy shit that was wilder than I expected
Patrux bullied and harassed others by violence and setting a colleague’s beard on fire.
And off the wishlist, it goes.
The comments online are nuts. “The original had it so it’s a nothing burger”.
Wtf are you smoking to think it’s okay to accept micro transaction on a single player game that’s a remake from a decade ago?
I mean the microtransactions are one thing but the headline is also making it seem like the original was a perfectly ethical game which it absolutely wasn’t.
Have you see the cash shop items though?
If you want to spend an extra $12 to parade through the pirate game with flaming armour and a molten skin for your boat be my guest I guess.
This is a nothing burger. It’s had this shit for years, and nobody with taste is going to buy it, so fuck it, let the fools be separated from their cash.
You can… Not just have it as a micro transaction.
Or do like every other fucking remake in the past decade and include it in the game.
I remember the original being pretty mid. Am I remembering wrong? Like it was interesting for a few days and then I don’t remember ever playing it again…
It was the best asscreed game. Which are pretty mid
Sea shanties now cost $0.50 per word sung.
Why, are they generated by AI and you have to pay for the tokens? /s
Stop giving them ideas…jfc
That would be more expensive.
Ubi was a dev that I paid dearly,
Wey-hey bully in the alley,
And if they could they’d charge us all yearly,
Bully down on Shinbone Al’!
I don’t buy Ubisoft garbage.
Not defending this, but it did remind me of how nuts the monetization was on the original. I had a modded 360 at the time, and there used to be an old school forum style website that curated all available DLC. This game had exclusive content for GameStop, Walmart, Target, and I think a 4th and 5th retailer too. Not to mention the pre-order bonuses and other exclusives. I wanna say there were around 25 different pieces of content and to get 100% of what was available, youd’ve had to buy 5 retail copies of the same game… or have a modded 360 and an internet connection. Even unlocking the content was more of a hassle than most DLCs. You had to move your user profile to a USB stick, connect it to your PC, inject the entitlements to the exclusive costumes into your profile, then move the profile back to your console.
Or you could just play it on PC.
if ye buy from the cash shop ye a landlubber not a captain
Looks like I’ll just wait to pirate this pirate game. :D
It leaked a few days before launch
This is the way
The company run by sex predators is doing other unsavoury shit, you say?
Glad I had zero hopes for this from the start. Just gonna wait for Windrose to 1.0 for my pirate fix instead of bothering with this.
Same. At this point the only thing Ubisoft could possibly convince me to buy is another VR assassins creed but they already announced that they’re done with VR because they hate fun.
Fuck Ubisoft.
I’ve played about 8 hours of resynced. The game is good. I replayed the original last year, and everything looks and feels better.
While there is a cash shop now, I’m pretty sure the original had that stupid animus store where you could spend cash to buy credits to buy stuff. Personally, I’d rather they just put a price on it. I can’t even really fault them for putting the time saver shit in for an extra cost. If you only have a limited amount of time available to play paying a few bucks to reduce the friction and make it more fun can be worth it. I’d be upset if it was included by default. I want to go follow the wind and see what adventures I find.
My only complaints so far are that a bunch of shit that looks climeable isn’t, and the ship upgrades are really locked behind story. I want to pillage now.

The problem with this opinion is that the friction exists in the game because of the cash shop. If they had decided not to have a cash shop at the design stage then they also wouldn’t have implemented the friction that you get to skip by paying money.
So you can either pay money to make it more fun like you said, or Ubisoft could make a proper game and have it be fun without you having to pay for the game more than once.
But what about the poor shareholders?
Given how Ubislop stocks fell in recent years, they are properly poor and that’s good.
I want that friction. I want to have to explore to find stuff. I don’t want to just be chasing markers on a map. I don’t currently have any constraints on my time, so randomly swimming to an island to see if there’s anything there is part of the charm.
On the flip side, I totally get if you only have a few hours a week to play, and don’t want to waste it doing shit that doesn’t pay off.
If you only have a limited amount of time available to play paying a few bucks to reduce the friction and make it more fun can be worth it. I’d be upset if it was included by default. I want to go follow the wind and see what adventures I find.
Imagine if there existed something like an option to play the game more casually and increase drops/xp so people could play the game at their own pace. We could call them “Gameplay Options” and have the users select them before the game starts (and allow them to change them later too). Revolutionary, I know.
This happened with Shadow of War, they claimed the microtransactions did not affect the game design, but when they removed the microtransactions, they streamlined the end-game to have far less grind.
Did paying a few bucks in the cash shop give you a sense of pride and accomplishment?
The original did have a cash shop as well. Having not played the remake, I understand that the cash shop now includes cosmetics, which the original did not iirc. The original cash shop had in game resources and bonuses.
