Literally this. I taught high school. One of my students was from Liberia and he loved soccer. Tall (6’4") young man, fast, strong, a good student, too. Respectful, just an all around good person.
One day, the football coach saw him walking to class, stopped right in front of him, and said, “you, you’re playing football!” and that kid did play football for the rest of high school and then for a scholarship to play football in college. He did not make it to the NFL, obviously, because there’s like a 99% chance that’s not gonna happen
still though a scholarship for football is kind of a good trade as long as you don’t get too incredibly jacked the fuck up in your time in, it’s a better deal than the u.s. military for sure
like 50+% chance of being maimed but at least a 0% chance of doing a war crime
We need to crossbreed the rules of Gaelic, Yank, Australian, and Canadian football into one universal alternative football that can truly rival association football.
America’s best athletes get funneled into America’s most popular sports. We have world class footballers, they’re just playing the other one.

50+% chance of maiming another civilian tho
Yeah
(The other football is Gaelic, the Yanks are trying to break into the Irish market due to lower taxes)

We can call that soccer.
