Situation is unfolding but the cops are in full damage control mode. Local organizations are rallying. Picture is frames before the crime. You can see the perpetrator pointing their gun at the victim who is restrained and on the ground.

Cops shouldn’t be allowed to carry guns. The UK is a hell somehow worse than the U.S. in many ways but the one thing they did right was having a separate squad of gun cops unless they’re no longer doing that idk i don’t keep up with the uk

It’s also most South-East Asian countries, where normal police do not have guns, then there’s military police with guns. There’s heaps of footage of police from China, Vietnam, Singapore, Indonesia etc using nets and trident like catching poles to disarm people with knives instead of just shooting them.
I also liked how rural police in New Zealand were a while back (I don’t know if it’s changed). They had no handguns, but a semi-automatic rifle locked in the boot of their car. So if they needed a gun for an emergency they had one. But it wasn’t something they could pull out on a whim.

That’s how it is everywhere except transit hubs (major train stations or airports) yeah. Those cops have g36 or mp5 now.

I think having separate armed police puts a gravity on them that massively reduces the number of times they actually use the weapons compared to the total normalisation of gun use the america cops have. Additionally because they’re “special” they probably take a greater pride in being professional about it.
in ireland only a tiny portion of the cops have guns and a beat cop will never have one. it’s kind of absurdly funny when your capitalist state is upheld by guys with literal sticks
