Some people here are citing the Opium Wars as still impacting how drug use is seen in China. I think the whole “drug war” ideology comes from, in America, let’s be real, suburban paranoia and racism. But in China it’s tied to the other societal effects of colonization. Presumably there’s other things, this is certainly not a justification.
Opium is opium though, cannabis isn’t, it’s entirely american drug propaganda that has people worldwide thinking they’re even remotely equitable
