I know in theory what a chaser is but how likely is it that I will encounter them and what do I need to now ?
Im basically transfem and to formulate it as cringey as possible on a journey of self discovery.

To answer the first question, i’m just gonna copypaste an older effortpost by comrade @AcidSmiley@hexbear.net , she has written up a fairly thorough overview of different aspects of chaserim. I will go more into how much of a problem these people can be later today in another post.
This is the definitive post on chaserism. As for whether you need to be worried about them @9to5@hexbear.net, I hope not but you do need to be aware. Even in a decent sized city where I encounter a lot more people on the daily it’s not like I’m fighting off chasers constantly, but I do encounter them. I don’t worry about them much because I’m a T4T lesbian and It’s a lot more dangerous to go on a date with them than just getting propositioned on the street. Transphobes worry me in general, chaser or not, but so far none have done more than harass me verbally. Which leads me to something very important:
Take your safety seriously and re-learn how to be safe. Pre-transition I could go walk around the city at night to my heart’s content. I was only harassed twice, and the only time I was scared was when it was the cops. Now if I want to get my wandering in the dark main character time in, I take my bike so I’m not easy to approach or catch. And even that is probably risky but idgaf I need this to stay sane. I travel in groups otherwise and I carry a bright flashlight and a knife. Self defense class would probably be a good idea that I need to look into as well. Ideally find some transfem community irl and get their advise about safety in your area. Cis allies can also be good for giving safety advise as long as they’re women and good allies.
