Well folks, I found an IRL cat hater!

Genuinely took me off guard when she said that.

She also snarled in disgust when I showed her a picture of one of the sweet heart strays in my neighborhood.

…Probably coming off as a fake post, but no, I’m being serious!

Cat haters genuinely creep me out and have almost always consistently been unpleasant people in general. Its not a perfect litmus test because I know some downright evil cat lovers too.

I like dogs for short stints but find them exhausting. I don’t really get this whole wanting a creature to be obsessed with you thing I find it very suffocating and off putting. I had some dogs I knew as puppies and visited often but eventually their enthusiasm just became too much, still loved the little rodent creatures though but I couldn’t even hide from them for 5 seconds just all over me for a solid hour before they would chill out.

Conversely my cat will sit at the door when i come home and then the second i am done taking my shoes off n shit pretends im not there and walks away. She does love a good roll around in whatever i was wearing though. My favourite thing that cats do is spend 10 minutes circling my lap and settling down only to get up the second i become a minor inconvenience of moving 1 millimetre in any direction

Comments in this thread are a bunch of cat-owners going “no my sweet baby is perfect anyone who doesn’t like cats is THE DEVIL INCARNATE and HAS SOMETHING WRONG WITH THEM IT’S ACTUALLY DOGS THAT SUCK, NO I DON’T HAVE TOXOPLASMOSIS”

I’m brave, I’ll say it - cats drool, canines rule. Ever heard of an Australian Shepherd or a Border Collie giving you toxoplasmosis? I haven’t either smuglord

I don’t have any pets, but I have never heard of a cat going out of its way to maul a stranger. I can’t say the same for dogs. So I prefer cats strictly on the basis that they’re less likely to negatively impact my life.

Only about 1% of cats shed the parasite at any given time, and the parasite isn’t infectious until 1 to 5 days after being shed. The risk comes from accidentally ingesting contaminated soil or litter particles. I also believe they only shed after initially contracting the infection not continuously.

The parasite most commonly spreads through undercooked meat, food (unwashed produce from contaminated soil) or water contamination or can be passed from mother to child. There’s like a non zero chance a cat hater who hates cats for this reason has the parasite without knowing. 2.5 billion people globally and 60 million in the US.

Just dont eat cat poo and you’ll be fine. Its overblown again from cat haters but also just another reason not to have outdoor cats.

Oh and the thing about it making you like cats is false cos its just a severe twisting of the parasites effects in mice that make them passive to predators which has nothing to do with liking cats and we’re also not mice.

Nope I believe it. People hate cats because they aren’t dogs. I’ve heard a cat hater actually wish death on cats.

It’s an extremely weird position to take for seemingly no legitimate reason.

dog owners are 100x more annoying than cat owners, esp indoor cats. Cats don’t bark incessantly. And after seeing a pit bull latch onto a border collies face, im good on the violent breeds. cat haters lack the emotional maturity to deal with a cat, they need the automatic loyalty of a dog. nvm the fact i can’t leave the house longer than 8 hours. my friend with the pit bull has to have his parents walk the dogs at lunch. also dog houses tend to smell because their stink gets everywhere. my friend ripped out his old carpet and when i walked in his house last week, i could tell the air was fresher. he’s also just a filthy person though. having a dog is too close to having a child.

Dog owners have told themselves they have to put up with all the dog stuff and deep down they hate it.

Guess who never has to go out in the rain to watch their dog shit on their sidewalk? Or then have a wet fucking dog romping through the house? Me with my 3 cats who shit in a box without being trained and clean themselves multiple times a day.

he’s also just a filthy person though. having a dog is too close to having a child.

It can be worse than having a child because children grow and can speak. Having a puppy is like having a rapid baby that can piss and shit everywhere on command, with teeth that can chew through furniture

  • i like all the mammal pets and the aves. i had a friend that had a pet tarantula. we just looked at each other warily. i didn’t want to get close.

i have another friend that has scorpions and snakes, and that’s hard for me to wrap my head around. ive watched and held pet snakes plenty, but i don’t get it. i look at their eyes and whatever is going on there is a total mystery to me. don’t even get me started on scorpions. little alien fighting robots. ill just watch, thank you.

ill take dogs and cats all day. i find people who don’t like mammals to have some kind of sad or limited history with a species. sure cats can play aloof head games and dogs can be pushy. birds can be noisy. whatever. i can be all those things too. it takes all kinds to make a world.

Some reptiles that will let you hold and pet them, have the best bellies ever to rub. It’s like if a cat belly was combined with a beanbag. I had a pet bearded dragon as a kid, holding himbs was the best sensory experience ever.

Wait until you own a pet that isn’t a cat or a dog and watch people contantly joke about eating your pet

Haha yes my pet chickens and shrimp do look delicious, let me make the same joke about eating your puppy and see how well it goes down

Or if you own a rat people will ask if its dirty and aggressive (not so much any more because the internet has shown people how nice they are, but when I was a kid my pet rat would get all kinds of comments about it being vermin)

I lived on a farm where all of us were vegan and every expected us to be using thr animals for stuff. We just had space for some extra friends. Chickens are cool people! We can have goats cause we like hanging out with goats! Animals are cool guys and appreciating them for who they are shouldn’t be weird!

I would have them as pets again as an adult, but I’ve told myself no more pets with short natural lifespans because I’ve had to say goodbye to a enough pets in my life that it’s starting to take its toll (grew up with rats, budgerigars and chickens and they all have shortish lifespans 5-8 years goes by faster than you think)

I like dogs but they’re a lot of work. I mean, I know birds are too, but I don’t need to walk a bird every day because it’s small enough that flying around the house is good enough.

Also even if you get a dog a friend they want you to constantly pay attention to them. Birds are fine with spending time with a bird friend while you’re at work if you make sure they’re compatible and you don’t accidentally convince your bird that you’re their mate lol

I have rescue dogs and like yeah… they are a lot of work. I love them, but they take a lot of time and money and I can’t explain concepts like “I’m very busy because of a deadline, please amuse yourself and I will make it up later”. They have needs, and if I don’t meet them nobody will.

I would not recommend adopting any non-human to someone that wasn’t completely onboard with what they require, and aware that it means many other compromises like wear on things and travel restrictions but dogs can be particularly demanding on you time. Other non humans I have cared for have been able to enjoy their own company more or required less direct attention to play/exercise/socialise.

I can understand people not liking dogs. I think they’re cool but they are a lot. They have zero chill and are high key all the time. I had to warm up to dogs as I grew up cause when I was a little kid I found wm pretty scary. Cause they were the same size as me and have next to no grace or awareness of their surroundings indoors. Its like being inside with an excited horse at that age. I think disliking cats means that you’re evil. There is no reason to have a problem with them, they fuck off when you visit, dogs need to swarm you. Cats mind their own damn business most of the time. You can be cat ambivalent but disliking em just doesnt make any sense to me.

I absolutely cannot handle being around most dogs and you just summed up why. It’s hard to socialize with someone or relax or concentrate on much of anything when there’s a big furry animal running around and jumping and barking in your face. I’ve met a few chill ones but most of them spike my blood pressure by like 20 points.

I dont have that tendency but I understand it. I’ve had enough roommates with dogs that im pretty used to them. I dont want anyone to get the impression I dont like dogs. I just understand why people would find them unappealing from a rational perspective where I dont think an active dislike of cats, which is different from a preference, is weird.

Dogs are fun as hell, but theyre always on. It’s too much for me. I became a co parent to any roommate’s dog ive ever had, they were always welcome to sleep on my bed etc as long as my kitty didnt make em fuck off, teritory disputes were their business. I will become immediately attached to just about any animal. Critters rule

People who hate cats and call them assholes as more than a joke, usually struggle with boundaries in general. Cats aren’t assholes or manipulative, and they can absolutely be cuddly, they just have boundaries and enforce them.

They’re harder to anthromorphize mentally and SO many people are adamant about animals meeting them on a human level. This is easy for dogs cause they have no self respect or boundaries at all, it’s part of what kinda puts me off about em. I have boundaries too and dogs do not give a fuck about that, which I don’t blame em for, I blame us breeding them into submissive toddlers.

I explained rational reasons why dogs can be off putting. They do tend to be care less about personal space and boundaries. As I said, if you visit a dog owners that dog will be all over you whwre if you visit a cat owner the cat will most likely never even be seen. I can understand people having an issue with dogs where I cant understand people having an issue with cats. Most cats arent all up in your business and none bark, they also arent as potentially dangerous. It’s a discomfort i can rationalize. For cats there arent really any rational reasons.

Mmm I don’t hate cats, have had them all my life. But also they are cute furry autistic predators/psychopaths that don’t really care that much whether I approve of them or not. They evolved their yowl to include sounds like a human baby to better manipulate subconscious human behavior and they have parasites in their crap that makes infected humans want to take care of them… Whereas my dog checks up on me all day and seems to care very much what I think of her, which I find endearing. Granted dogs also have weird evolved stuff like “facial expressions” that they use to manipulate humans.

But kitties win hands down for cute companions that are mostly easy to care for, no question.

This is extremely funny phrasing to me because it implies cats consciously and deliberately eugenicized themselves for this, when in fact it was human-imposed selective breeding that selected for it.

I was bad at math in school until my final math class. My grades went from 50s to 90s cause the teacher explained the scientific applications of the math so i didnt feel like I was doing math for the sake of math. Also, he was pals with my gf at the time’s uncle who was a math major dropout in his late 20s who i was living with. The uncle made his money playing poker and my teacher met him there and so my math teacher and I would occasionally party together on weekends. Between the 2 of em within a six month span math clicked. Im just bad at mental arithmetic and so much shit was focused on that. I can turn a practical issue into algebra no problem in my head tho, some functions make sense to me and im glad I learned em before getting a modular synth. I do food costing at work now cause my boss sucks at math. There is a formula and it turns out its the exact same as the one I came up wirh myself. I’m pretty good at calculating in my head now as well. Im school they bombarded us with a lot of abstract methods of imagining a math problem. I just kinds eventually memorized the multiplication table and work my way from the closest number I already know the answer for. You can reverse engineer multiplication for division and then addition and subtraction csn be done via breaking down the multiples of 10 and counting on your fingers. I remember in elementary school they tried to teach us math with little plastic coins that were yellow on one side snd red on the other and red side meant it was worth 10 and yellow meant it was worth 1 or vice versa and we had to fucking draw these stupid coing as filled in or wmpty xircles while proving our work. Sent my parents insane when they tried to help with my math homework. They knew the answers ans then had to spend hours trying to make sense of the weird methodology we had to show. However I always absolutely crushed the humanities.
