    Do you think there’s methodology behind concluding it’s to avoid mating or is it like one scientist says “obviously” and everyone agrees with no further need for investigation

      my friend has a masters in anthropolgy and she loves to tell the story about “fertility icons” where basically these stuff old dudes in the field back in the day when women weren’t in any positions would dig up a site and find carvings of penises and such and be like “these are fertility icons” or “they clearly worhsipped a fertility god” and now women are part of the profession and they are like “no, these are ancient dildos”

      Also possible researchers only hypothesized it, but the media is latching onto the hypothesis as hard fact for a sensationalist headline while using cherry-picked quotes, as often happens
