I opened my compost bin today to find hundreds of these guys crawling around in the compost. I’m curious as to what they are.

    My guess would be soldier fly larva and not grubs (beetle larva). Grubs tend to want moist roots, not rotting stuff. Leave em there, they will help with the decomposition

    I don’t think so. They look like some type of fly larvae but I’m not certain.

    They might be black soldier fly larvae. If so, they are very beneficial and will speed the composting process.
