Sarah McBride, the first out transgender member of Congress who won her election just weeks ago, posted a statement on social media, several hours before Republican House speaker Mike Johnson announced that transgender women are not permitted to use women’s bathrooms in the Capitol building.

In the post, which features a photo of McBride in a bathroom, McBride says “Here, I am using a women’s restroom in North Carolina that I’m technically barred from being in.”

The statement continues:

They say I’m a pervert They say I’m a man dressed as a woman. They say I’m a threat to their children. They say I’m confused, They say l’m dangerous

We’re all just people trying to pee in peace.

Are we sure that pic actually shows a women’s washroom? It looks far too clean.

That wasn’t in the link, and it seems kind of weird - where did she post it? (If it was Xitter i have it blocked, but i still expected the text to be in the article and I didn’t see it)

I just want to read her response to ask this and I can’t seem to get to it. This article and another from the guardian doesn’t even go to the referenced story.

Then I found a website that quotes her “pee in peace” comment and when I click on that link, which theoretically goes to her blue sky account, it says the post is deleted.

So then I remind the post specific information from the URL so it’ll go directly to, what I presume to be, her blue sky account people. (It’s literally the first time I’ve ever clicked a link that goes to Blue sky, so I’m not 100% sure that the URL is correct.) it seems correct though because now it says her account is suspended.

She must be scary as hell since every path I take to try to get information on this keeps getting blocked.

    🤬

It is important to note that each Member office has its own private restroom, and unisex restrooms are available throughout the Capitol.

“Women deserve women’s only spaces,” his statement concluded.

So what exactly is the issue here? Seems pretty reasonable to me.

Exactly. Seems like everything was fine and there was no need to target and bully a new member of Congress for no reason. After all, they all have their own space in their office.
